Re: Display items ahead when scrolling up/down the list
I had tried that right away but found it a bit too tricky. Well, now I got it, it's nice.
BTW, I'd like to raise this to GUI but I need a good English caption for it. I'm tempted to call it "bow wave"... help!

Re: Display items ahead when scrolling up/down the list
It's hard to put in 2 or 3 words, but why not simply ScrollAhead, or ScrollAdvance, or Keyboard Scroll Ahead, or Keyboard Scroll Advance.
I noticed that on Pg Up and Pg Dn too. I'm glad it was mentioned.

I think it's enough to offer values 0 to 7, okay?
Or maybe also -1 for vampires and other folks who like to be in the dark.

I think it should allow any value. You can use, say, 50 or 100 to keep it near the middle of the window when scrolling in either direction (which I'm liking).

Really? How many rows do you see maximally?

Re: Display items ahead when scrolling up/down the list
I'm not sure what to call it, but have been toying with combinations of:
1) List, Scroll, Focus
with
2) Gutter, Buffer, Margin, Padding, Peek
Nothing sticks out yet.

Re: Display items ahead when scrolling up/down the list
Another (luxury) problem is: where to put it in the config dialog? No space!!!

The only place that seems appropriate isadmin wrote:Another (luxury) problem is: where to put it in the config dialog? No space!!!
Configuration | Controls and More | Miscellaneous
or possibly stretch to add it under
Configuration | Tree and List | Items in Tree and List
EDIT: Or break it into 2 options so that the user can configure it differently for Tree or List, but then you have to add two items to Configuration | Tree and List...

Re: Display items ahead when scrolling up/down the list
Hm. It has to do with Type and with Ahead, so maybe under Configuration | Filters & Type Ahead Find | Type Ahead Find?

Currently 43, but could imagine that increasing in the future.admin wrote:Really? How many rows do you see maximally?

Re: Display items ahead when scrolling up/down the list
Concerning the caption I found and like this:
http://pragmaticemacs.com/emacs/use-scr ... ur-cursor/
So I would call it "Scroll Margin", okay?
(And the key "KeyScrollMargins" fits nicely).
PS: something similar here called scroll-off:

the raise to gui is nice but the "jump to setting ..." does not find it yet, neither looking for "scroll" nor "margin"

Yep, saw that and fixed it just 1 minute ago.

Re: Display items ahead when scrolling up/down the list
Another nice addition - was missing this behavior. (in fact, I think I/someone might have wished for something like this earlier)
But, why not put this scroll margin setting in Controls and More | Miscellaneous?
I don't think Menu, Mouse, Safety is a fitting residence for this.
Also, you added a brandnew Useability header - it's a pretty generic name, and I can think of more than a handful options that can be better moved here.
