Treat dot files as hidden
Treat dot files as hidden
I am using a plethora of cross-platform tools which flood my user directory with dot files and directories. I would find it very useful if these were either treated as hidden files (like Linux does) or made into their own category which could be hidden both in the tree and the list view with a keyboard shortcut / toolbar button.
Re: Treat dot files as hidden
you can apply a visual filter:
• press CTRL+J, type in "!.*" without quotes
• uncheck Tools > Configuration > Find Files & Branch View > Visual Filters > Apply to files only
• check Configuration > Find Files & Branch View > Visual Filters > Persist across folders
This doesn't affect the folder tree pane or branch view.
• press CTRL+J, type in "!.*" without quotes
• uncheck Tools > Configuration > Find Files & Branch View > Visual Filters > Apply to files only
• check Configuration > Find Files & Branch View > Visual Filters > Persist across folders
This doesn't affect the folder tree pane or branch view.

Thanks for the suggestion SammaySarkar. Indeed, that is what I have been doing for a while now. The fact that it doesn't affect the tree and also that you loose the visual filter for something more useful made me post this wish though.

+1
I deal with linux files as well so this would be an improvement to the current situation...

I like the idea, and will extend it a little...

The extended idea could cover the 'useful junk' too as I'm also interested in using XYplorer as a library cataloging program.

Re: Treat dot files as hidden
Working on it, and works out fine! The extended version: You can state a list of wildcard patterns for items that shall be hidden in Tree and List.
I only wonder: Should I connect this to the state of Configuration | Tree and List | Items in Tree and List | Show hidden files and folders? Or rather have it work independently of it? I tend to the latter... after all it has really nothing to do with the HIDDEN attribute... (disadvantage: might need to add a new menu command for toggling this, and/or a new toolbar button).

Won't mind a new hide list option.

I'm fine with either. If you go for a separate group being able to quickly show and hide them again via a keyboard shortcut and/or toolbar button would be important to me though.

Re: Treat dot files as hidden
I wonder if this should really
- apply to the Tree
- apply to folders (Tree and List)
?

It's like obfuscation on steroids: sample screenshots can be easily produced now without compromising personal\unwanted info.
If possible I'd like this to have a different color for the icon or other visual cue than the discrete status bar change 'x/y items'.
-a switch to indicate to apply the feature to the tree AND/OR to the list would be good, sure it would.
Reducing its power wouldn't be a good thing: you never know when it'll be missed in the current functionality.
