Full Unicode Support

Post by Ashwin »

I wish interface (File List as well as search) supports full Unicode. I think it is high time XYPlorer supports Unicode.

Hello and welcome here!

Yeah, I wish XY had full Unicode support in the GUI too. But sadly Visual Basic 6 can't do that, and XYplorer is built with VB6.
The file list does already do Unicode, though. :)

I have heard that if Office 2000 activeX controls, otherwise known as the Forms 2.0 (FM20.dll) are used, VB6 gives full Unicode Support. Also, I think, Microsoft has provided a legal free version of using the control, but user has to download and install a program to do so...

READ HERE -> INFO: Usage and Redistribution of FM20.DLL (http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;224305)
Download -> MS ActiveX Control Pad (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defau ... l/cpad.asp)

If XYPlorer can use these controls, or other paid Unicode Aware Controls, files can be searched in local languages.

1. File Search displays ????? when Typed with Unicode Charactors in Find Files > Name or Find Files > Location. I can not search in Unicode Charactors. (not as in FileLocatorPro software). I have tried to write in Hindi & Gujarati languages.

2. Yes, It displays file name in Unicode, but only for existing files. Try creating new file or folder and renaming it with Unicode Charactors. It will only display ????.

Any solution?

Gujarati: મારું નામ અશ્વિન ચંદારાણા છે.
Hindi: मेरा नाम अश्विन चंदाराणा है।

How do you enter the text? Do you use any particular software?

Wait, wait.
Copy-pasting works fine, but typed characters are all ???.
I use Avro Keyboard to type in Bangla. Adding keyboard language with Windows language settings is the same.
:shock: I didn't know this all this time...

Hm. Obviously I cannot test this here. No idea what causes this or how to fix it. :|

If it's any help, you can try Avro Keyboard yourself (here's the homepage: www.omicronlab.com/avro-keyboard.html ) - there's a "portable" installer, or you can install it in Sandboxie or a VM. Install, run and press F12 (ensure Bangla input mode is active) and try to rename a file. F12 again to get back to English input, and uninstall.

Thank God, everybody agreed after all !!!

Programmer can consider switching Office Components (Forms 2) with VB6 as I suggested.

By the way, I am using Pramukh IME, from vishalon.net. It is a basically single file software. No install, no Admin rights needed. Stays in Tray and lots of keyboard shortcuts to switch between English & Last Indian. Supports all the supported Indian Language including Bangla. And free at all. Try it, to avoid install-uninstall of keyboard.
