Custom Copy | Name Colision | Override if different
Usually when I copy files and folders, I do not need to copy them, if the files in destination are the same (name, size, last change). But there is no option in the Custom Copy Configuration for this.
There is "override" (I think for every file) and "override if newer". But what when the file in source is older then in destination. With "override if newer" the older file would not be copied. But usually I also want to copy them and overwrite in destination.
Can XYplorer check on name colision the size and last change? Can you incert this option? Thanks.

Good idea, really. At the moment I use other software to "mirror" the other side.
It would also make sense in Sync-Select: "Select unique and modified"

Hmm.... Why don't you use "Backup To..." instead of "Copy to"?
Re: Custom Copy | Name Colision | Override if different
Good question.
Is there an easy way to backup to the other pane, instead of more or less hard-wired destination paths?

Habits from other software must have put blinders on my eyes.
I am impressed.

Another way, prefered by me: drag with right mouse button, select "Backup Here".

Seems like I was too optimistic. Can't get this to work as I hoped.
Objective: Overwrite file at destination IF
* same name
* different in ANY way from the source, i.e. content, size (larger or smaller), date (newer or older)
In other words: Not restricted to newer only. Just like slimokanta pointed out in his request - the user knows the source represents the "current status", even though the modified date may be older, it still counts as newer.
At the moment I only see the option to overwrite if newer, or to overwrite the whole armada of files.

Yes, this is planned. One idea here was to spare unnecessary SSD write operations.
Checking for different content, of course, will make it pretty slow.

You're right, not really necessary. Size and date will suffice. As long as replacing newer by older becomes part of the picture.admin wrote:Checking for different content, of course, will make it pretty slow.
My concern is not so much with SSD but the time it takes to either overwrite huge volumes, or else, dig down to hand-pick folders.

Re: Custom Copy | Name Colision | Override if different
So that would be:
On name collision: Overwrite if different size OR different date.
Correct?

Correct?

Correct.
And it would be helpful to have this in SyncSelect as well:
Select unique and modified (newer, older, different size)
Sometimes it's good to just check up on changes, without actually running the backup.

Thanks a million. It's awesome.
Rest assured that this will be the #1 background task to keep my drives entertained. They're already waiting in line to get their share.

Yeah, but not everybody owns the latest technology. Besides, being able to stomach an enormous number of beer cycles doesn't mean you should actually be exposing yourself to these marathons on a regular basis

Thanks for this link, though, grindax - hey btw, did you ever grind + ax a drive to pieces?
