Special Property Title to Read ID3v2

Post by CoffeeKid »

v13.80.0137

I subscribe to a lot of podcasts. All of them have meta data but in the form of ID3v2.2 or ID3v2.3. Unfortunately the special property for MP3 title only captures ID3v1.

This screenshot is from mp3tag displaying the tag versions in the mp3 and the title:

This screenshot from xyp shows the MP3 Title special property for the same files from the previous screenshot:

Please add the ability for special property to grab ID3v2 title if ID3v1 title is not found.

Thanks
-Jim

You might find them in the normal properties. I think the shell supports them. Look for album, artist, title ...

One day, XY will support v2 as well.

Here's one more vote to implement ID3V2. It would really help, in my collection of 2,000 songs.

Thanks, Tom

Those properties don't show up in the info panel, either, but what I don't quite understand is why I can still get the file info tips to display them just fine. In fact, I can even get information overload by enabling too many properties in those info tips. ;)

Could you send me one or two test files (or better: download links), please (since I'm on Win8 I lack any mp3 software and have no time to care for new one)?

I believe that these podcasts are in ID3v2. You could subscribe (no questions asked), download one or two and then unsubscribe. Works in my Opera.

Thanks. Actually I'm just working on this and just had found some. And I also remember now why I did not add ID3v2 support right away: because ID3v2 is totally weird crap. This was clearly done on heavy drugs. Anyway, I will try to add as much of it as I can.

Just a post to say thank you for tackling this. :appl: It will be very helpful to me for my downloaded podcast files.
It is a mess. I tried to understand it for audio files and again for image files a while back. It just seemed there was no rhyme or reason to which "tag" or "field" (or whatever term they use) should be used to save what I thought to be simple information.

Thank you again!!!

Did you actually test it already? I have only 3 files here for testing, not really a sound base...

No, no, I haven't tested anything.
I was only offering a word of thanks for the work you are putting in.
Didn't mean to confuse.

After a cursory glance it seems like a mixed bag...
Most columns seem to work so long as an ID3v1 tag is present but the Meta tab doesn't work for ID3v2.4 or when no ID3v2 tags are present. Probably easier for you to just take a look at the attached files (Src)...

One thing I neglected to test here is what happens when both versions are present but differ or some fields are present in one version but not the other. Though as far as I recall one cannot mix ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4 within the same file.

Note that I used a much older foobar2000 v1.1.13 to tag the files instead of the current v1.3.2, as that was the version I was last using before I gave up these music management headaches. :veryconfused:

I can reproduce your screenshots, but I think your samples are malformed.

The next beta will bring some improvements in tag parsing, but not much for your samples.

It's a bit bold to claim foobar2000 is creating malformed tags, so what makes you think this?

I re-tagged the MP3s using the current version of foobar2000 - the v2.4 ones are slightly different but it appears that's only because the order of the tags is changed, but the other files all stayed the same.
