Make labels more visible when column is truncated

Post by jupe »

When the labels coloring mode is set to the default of Name column only and you have the column truncated it isn't clear if the selected item has a label in the list, eg. below shows 2 selected items, both have a Label but the bottom item is shown how it looks when the column is truncated, as you can see it isn't very visible.

So would it be possible to decrease the selection color width when the name column is truncated too, so some of the label color sticks out, just like is already done when the column is wide enough, even if it was only a couple pixels. Unfortunately the issue affects most view modes except Thumbnails, but even if it could just be done for Details I think it would be an improvement.

Absolutely. Fix comes.

BTW, is the current 4-pixel wide color hint enough? I could easily make it bigger...

Oh wow, this is a great improvement for me, I've been wanting to bring this up for ages,

Thanks. :cup:

PS: I was ok with 4px but 5 is ok too.

I'm getting a rectangular box in near the end of the selection beyond the actual selection color. It's present only in Dark mode and only when the cursor is still over the selection. It must be a result of going 5 pixels. By the way, I think 4 pixels was more than sufficient; 5 is in my opinion too much.

Is that new? To me it looks like the hover effect in "List" view. (Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Usability | Usability | Highlight hovered items)

BTW, I enlarged the width of the visible label color on selected items *by* 5 pixels from 4 to 9. I like it. What's not to like about that?

PS: I looked further into the latter and decided to go back to the old value (4 pixels), the new one did not play too well with other stuff.

Yes, it the hover box affect when the mouse is over an item. I never noticed it in Light mode probably due to the colors being so close.

I thought 4 pixels was fine.

Indeed, with "Full Row Select" it's not necessary. Next beta.
