A few of these graphics don't seem to get applied, frinstance, the echo and msg popup dialog icons. Maybe someone can shed some light on it.

It only affects the background (right and above of all tabs). The tabs themselves are controlled by the theme.

Mine is not totally white, it's FCFCFC. That's my Win8 default, never changed it AFAIK.

You had to do Win8 specific goodies only after, just after, I downgraded from it!

14.40.0100 will add even more flatness (tabs, toolbar, statusbar, info panel...).

PS: Apart from the white dropdown box arrows, you can have it all in Win7 as well.

I like it. Both, the light-footed elephants and the flat XYscape.
When Windows started out, I wanted sunken and raised edges, the more grunge and clutter, the better. At some point it turned around, now I can't have it clean enough, ZEN-like.

Flat is beautiful. Keeps the focus on the main events: content and dancing elephants.
