Move here with path: flat
Move here with path: flat
I liked the new feature very much. But something tells me a "flat" ie no subfolders at all would be useful too.
Re: Move here with path: flat
One of the possible selections suggested should be a "no subfolders" which would just be a regular search for all; select files only, which then would copy/move those files into a single subfolder on the target dir as a safety belt.

Re: Move here with path: flat
Hm. Has nothing to do with "Move here with path". Or I don't get it.neutrox wrote:One of the possible selections suggested should be a "no subfolders" which would just be a regular search for all; select files only, which then would copy/move those files into a single subfolder on the target dir as a safety belt.

Re: Move here with path: flat
It's more of a "Move here without paths", I have to agree.
But I miss something like that sometimes.

But you will get collisions if you flatten dirs. What then?

Follow collision settings and dialog...?

Re: Move here with path: flat
I just cannot see the great use of flattening dirs and then fighting collisions. You really work this way?

Re: Move here with path: flat
Yes, sometimes the whole structure is wrong or I just have to plain build another set of files. Search all, select all files, create new folder sometimes, drag from here into there, *same obvious collision dialog* sometimes. See the improvement?

Re: Move here with path: flat
Well, anyway, it's easy to do: You do a search, then select the search results and drag them somewhere. They will be copied flat unless you agree to automatic rich copy.neutrox wrote:Yes, sometimes the whole structure is wrong or I just have to plain build another set of files. Re: Move here with path: flat
I second this too. It just happens I need to 'flat' copy files from several folders to one folder.
Doing search first involves too many steps, where there already is 'Branch View'.
As the other person mentioned, collisions are already handled in Configuration.
Note:
I'm not sure but was there ever two ways of copy (rich and flat) before? Because I feel like I did both in the past but just now, it seems only rich copy is available.

Re: Move here with path: flat
It's called "Automatic Rich File Operations" and it's here for while now:
But I agree it should be optional. I will add a checkbox...
PS: Note that it already can be tweaked:
Code: Select all
v10.70.0204 - 2012-01-10 14:40
+ Automatic Rich File Operations: From now on, any copy/move
operation (drop, paste, to new subfolder, etc.) will check whether
its direct sources are "rich" (= come from more than one folder),
and then offer to do a Rich Copy or Move instead of the standard
flat operation (where things might collide/merge).
Note that "rich sources" typically come from recursive search
results or branch views.
The rootpath for such a rich operation is the greatest common
parent folder of the sources.
PS: Note that it already can be tweaked:
Code: Select all
v17.00.0105 - 2016-08-15 18:02
+ Added tweak "AutoRichFileOps" to control Automatic Rich File Operations
(i.e., what happens when you copy/move files from multiple locations to
one location).
AutoRichFileOps=[value]
0 = ask
1 = always
2 = never
The "Rich Copy?" prompt offers a way to go from value 0 to value 1 or 2.
However, to go back to 0 you have to tweak the INI file.

Re: Move here with path: flat
Is there any resolution on this? I would like to copy a selection of files from branch view and paste all those files to a single folder. Is this possible?
thanks.
thanks.

Sure, see: Configuration | File Operations | File Operations | Miscellaneous | Recreate source folder structure
Set it to Never or Ask.
