I tried all that apart from the last (uninstall the driver -- too risky) -- it did not change anything. But, well, I can live without that port. It's not worth spending more time on it, thanks anyway!klownboy wrote:I have 8 hubs on my desktop.Have you tried shutting it down and then re-booting? When you right click on the HUB and look at properties, does Windows report that the HUB is working properly? From the right click menu you may want to try to disable then re-enable the hub. If that doesn't work, uninstall the driver and then re-install. If you uninstalled a driver, Windows should automatically re-install it on a cold boot-up.

Re: iPhone in XY
Actually uninstalling a driver needed for USB hubs shouldn't cause any problems since the drivers are inherent or built-in to Windows. I had an issue just last week with a USB port that I couldn't fix. I was playing with Microsoft's devcon.exe utility to restart/remount a USB port - where you "safely remove" a flash drive but have not yet pulled it out. The issue I had wasn't caused by the devcon, but the only way I could return the port to a functioning port, was to uninstall and reinstall the driver. Sometimes that's what it takes when all the other fiddling won't do it.

Re: iPhone in XY
It's okay, thanks, I can manage with the ports I still have. I will buy a new machine with Win8 anyway next year.

Re: iPhone in XY
OK, I got Win8 now and a phone that connects as MTP device. So MTP support will be the next thing I do starting today. Seems to be a bit tricky so don't expect results this evening...

Re: iPhone in XY
I'm testing it now with my camera (Canon PowerShot S110).
Well, I could retrieve a so-called "usb device path" for it:
::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\\\?\usb#vid_04a9&pid_325b#e9ae0f0670bc4b84ba1d92ece1e347ad#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}
If anyone here has seen such a thing before and knows if one can do anything useful with it, say Hi to me...
I know that the first part (::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}) is the GUID for "This PC".

Used to search&destroy those entries from the registry to clear device history (use Ghostbuster now).
These might be used to uniquely identify a device! (but IDs probably confined to host pc)
Hey, I had a vision of a new feature: PDA (Portable Device Actions), you know, custom actions for unique(-ly identified) devices.

Re: iPhone in XY
It looks like a combination of the USB Container ID and The Device ID. Please use Uwe-Sieber's USBTreeView (free), it will show you everything you want to know about the USB devices connected and the associated hubs. You be able to see how they correspond to the same information provided in the "Details" tab of the Universal Serial Bus Controller properties box in Windows "Device Manager". Double click on the USB controller then go into the Details tab and use the dropdown for the Hardware ID. It will correspond to the "usb#vid_04a9&pid_325b#" portion. Using Uwe-Sieber USBtreeView is much simpler and easier to follow the entire USB tree structure and it will show you the Device ID and Container ID and it will automatically update when you insert a device (external drive, flash drive, etc). http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html

Re: iPhone in XY
I am brand-new to iOS. My first iPhone arrives in a few hours.
In searching the forum, a thread entitled "iPhone in XYZ" and some eight or nine years ago. A search of the current XY help file yields nothing.
So my question is: can XYZ and iPhone as a disk drive?
Thanks much, and a happy gobble gobble to all…
