iPhone in XY
Re: iPhone in XY
This really needs to get solved. Android has now completely switched to MTP protocol. Which means the days of phones being USB mass storage devices are long gone. I do a lot of Android developing myself, and for the first time ever I feel XY's limitation is actively holding me back.
I've mapped the most common features I need to scripts that send commands to ADB. But it can't stay like this. Don, please, go buy a 50 euro Android phone and support MTP natively.

I don't know: are you familiar with VirtualBox Manager?admin wrote:I have an android phone. But I cannot make it appear in my win7 virtual box. Any ideas?
Me thinks I should be like this:
* have your USB device connected to the host PC
* launch VirtualBox Manager
* select a powered off virtual machine
* click at Settings
* go to the USB branch at the left
* enable USB Controller and add a filter with the right buttons.
But I don't know if that works for U though.

Not bad, I came closer, but then I got this:
PS: As you see the phone was recognized by the Virtual Box, but not by Win7:

Well, the usual, I guess: from Win7 VPC invoke Windows Update. But I can't tell how exactly for your case.admin wrote:Not bad, I came closer, but then I got this
I would open Device manager, select the device without proper driver and chose "Update Driver" (or like this) from context menu.
Or maybe visit the HTC homepage for a windows driver as setup and install that.

I don't know if that is useful, but to connect a samsung I had this enabled on the device
to be able to see that device as USB store (or whatever that is called again):
Settings > Entwickler-Optionen > [X] USB-Debugging
HTH
Re: iPhone in XY
Might also be worth checking Google's instructions: http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html
Though watch cause the directions seem to be for the Google USB Driver, for Nexus devices, instead of accounting for whatever crazy way the OEMs package up their own drivers.

Re: iPhone in XY
OK, I managed to install the drivers from this link, and the problems have disappeared. Device manager is satisfied, no more errors. It should work. Only: I don't see the phone in Explorer. Where should it be? (Sorry, but I don't know Explorer very well )

The phone now appears here:
Netzwerkinfrastrukturgerät??? Does not sound right to me... Anyway, it's the only place where I can see it, and I can do nothing with it. Any ideas?FAQ | XY News RSS | XY Twitter

Re: iPhone in XY
No chance. Tried the whole afternoon and half of the night to get an MTP device into my Win7 system. Gotta give up for now. Without this it is impossible for me to code the MTP stuff which is trivial in itself, but I need something to play with, of course. There is lot of great stuff on my list for the next months, and then later in 2014 we can probably look at this little iPhone problem again.

What device were you trying to connect, if you don't mind my asking?admin wrote:No chance. Tried the whole afternoon and half of the night to get an MTP device into my Win7 system. You're also aware that, at least in stock Android, you have the option of switching between MTP or PTP for file transfer, right?
Re: iPhone in XY
Have you tried connecting your phone and seeing if it works natively outside of the VM?admin wrote:HTC Desire.
i understand you're not our personal programmer-santa by the way Don. You have a roadmap and that's the way it should be. Any work you can put towards natively supporting MTP would be greatly appreciated. And! You have to admit, "Native iPhone support" would look really great on that feature page of yours

Hi Don,
don't konwo wether it helps you with that issue or not. My Lumia 820 also doesn't get listed in XY though it appears in WE: This is unfortunate because I got the 820 exactly because WindowsPhone offers easy access to its public file system (no heaviy-weight iTunes needed to copy a simple file). I really hope I can skip WE for those jobs in the foreseeable future.
Cheers,
Filehero

Re: iPhone in XY
Outside the VM I only have XP which does not support non-drives. It does connect as a drive there without problems.40k wrote:Have you tried connecting your phone and seeing if it works natively outside of the VM?admin wrote:HTC Desire.
