Move to...recent locations

Post by acheton »

Hi all,

Is there any way when moving a file to have access to a list of recent locations? I can see there is access to the contents of the currently open tabs but what I would find useful when reorganising tabs is the ability to RC -> Move to -> Recent locations & have the recently accessed or used locations listed. Perhaps there is a way which I've not spotted yet - all advice gratefully received.

Thanks,

Ach

Well, with the latest CTRL+SHIFT trick it's fairly easy using Dual Pane.
- open the second pane (Panes / Dual Pane)
- select your recent location from the Recent Locations toolbar button and hold CTRL+SHIFT while you click it
- select the items to move in the active pane and do Panes / Move to Other Pane

...and Go to Previous Location (F7) still is able to go to the last location AT THE OPPOSITE, INACTIVE pane. Nice...

I recently noted that "Move to Recent Location..." is something I do quite a lot. I could really use a small menu that offers me the last 10 locations as move targets.

What about you?

That would be handy. It reminds me of the script LittleBig and another by nerweed came up with called Clean Recent Menu viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11458&hilit=recent+ ... ns#p102966. It allows the user to limit the listing to a number of their choice and it also breaks up the listing into sections by drive.

Good idea, yes please!

I expect "Copy to ..." to get the same improvement, right?

Looks great indeed, but here I want something dead-simple (= no options, no states).

Isn't this the same as what lots of users asked for in the past, and they were always told no?

I did a search and this was just one of the results:

I still don't want to pack yet another section into that menu.

I'm thinking of a stand-alone new command that pops that little menu (available in the menu as command, and as toolbar button).

Not sure. I personally would need Move much more often.

I'm rather coming from the generic side.

Having access to the recent locations everywhere were applicable would be great. In my dreams you would replace all Windows standard Folder/FilePicker with your own component to provide access even there (especially for scripting). :D

In the past I was using dedicated tools for that for many years. But one got unsupported, the other was never running well ....

Maybe for symmetry's sake?

What about this: Hold CTRL to make it a copy. That's in line with holding CTRL on a mouse drag that would otherwise just move the files.

Well, probably you are just right. Symmetry somehow wins every argument... :)
