W11 dialog window text is blurry
W11 dialog window text is blurry
I've just bought a new W11 laptop and the text in dialog windows (eg: copy/move actions) is blurry. It's like that using XYcopy or Windows copy, but doesn't happen in a fresh instance ofXY. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this?

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
The blurry is background, the other is foreground. Could that make the difference?

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
Thanks Don, as per another post of mine, I don't know what background and foreground mean so I can't answer your question. However, upon further use of this laptop, the blurry issue isn't specific to XY. It happens in a lot of other apps and dialog windows as well.

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
It is shown in the title bar of your two screenshots.
You can turn off any background processing by unticking this:
Configuration | File Operations | File Operations | Background Processing | Enable background processing

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
Thanks Don but I've discovered it's not W11 specific. I've also bought a new W10 laptop and the same thing happens. It's also not just XY. It's something to do with the graphics and it happens with a lot of dialog windows and some apps. I've found a custom scaling setting that fixes the problem so it's all good for now.

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
SOLVED!!
I've found the solution. It's a compatibility issue. To fix it: right-click XYcopy.exe and goto Properties > Compatibility > Change high DPI settings.
Check both boxes for Program DPI and High DPI scaling override. Select Application from the dropdown list (although this should be selected by default). Click OK, Apply, OK again. Done.

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
I've just had it pointed out to me in another forum that checking the Program DPI box probably isn't necessary. I was just following instructions from an online source. It would never have occurred to me to see if only the high DPI was needed.

Do you happen to have a screenshot of the Properties > Compatibility tab with your settings?

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
Here you are. Just check the box for 'HIgh DPI scaling override' and that's it. 'Application' should be the default, but change to it if it's not.

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
Thanks!
In my notes it says: "Scaling performed by: System (Enhanced)". Did you already try "System (Enhanced)"? Does it make a difference?

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
No I didn't. As I said, I just followed the instructions I found online and they said use Application. But I've just tried both System and System (Enhanced) and neither them fixed the blurriness. Admittedly I only tried one app but Application has worked in every instance (8 apps) so far, so I don't really see the point in trying any others with the System options.

Re: W11 dialog window text is blurry
Hi Don, just wanted to follow up with this. Upon further investigation I've found you are correct. Sometimes System (Enhanced) is the better option - although that wasn't the case for the copy/move dialog I was posting about. It all depends on the app itself and trying each option to find the best one.
