Problem Renaming Mapped Drive

Post by Peter XY »

Computer rebuilt from scratch

I have two mapped drives. I would like to rename them to something descriptive. This was successful when I was in the administrators account but it was not when I was under the (standard) user account, even though I started XY as "Run as administrator". Is there something peculiar about XYplorer? This is my computer, I am the only one that uses it so I have admin priviledges.

So the jist of this question is that it does work in admin account but not user accoount.

I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

No errors. There is no response to the keyboard input.

You are talking about inline-rename in the folder tree? You press ENTER and the name does not change?

Press [F2] or r-click and select "Rename"

I've posted the solution but it is not visible yet.

Not visible yet? This usually takes a second. Maybe try again.

Solved
These are the results and conclusion that worked for my system and the state it is in
Windows 7 Pro/32
Standard User account

Problem
Open XY: displays Windows' formatted name ( \\server\drive (letter] )
Open XY "Run As Administrator": displays the mapped drives renamed to what I want
Re-open in standard user: try to rename the mapped drives and does not work

Solution
Open Windows Explorer (not "Run As Administrator")
Rename mapped drives
Close Windows Explorer
Open XY as standard user: now shows the renamed mapped drives

Conclusion (it seems)
XY will not allow renaming when logged in a standard user, Windows Explorer will.

Ok, thanks. Might be one of those things that only work when your app is called (or renamed to (!)) "Explorer.exe". We had such a case here recently.
