Resizing of Tab Bar

When you work long times you end up opening lots of files and my tab bar gets cluttered. I have my favourite tabs in a fixed location but wonder if there is some config that would allow for these tabs also to keep a fixed size. Once you have 20 or more tabs created, each individual tab becomes quite small and difficult to quickly see which one to put the focus on (as the name gets truncated) . Is there any easy way to either have specific tab sizes saved or resize tabs in a way to find the relevant one faster.
Quite possibly there is some feature that I am not even aware that would be even better than what I am asking for.
