Navigating folders

Post by MBaas »

I installed Corel Paintshop Pro 2022 yesterday and it took ownership of more components than wanted: when I'm in XY and press Enter on a folder (or dbl-click), that folder is opened with PSP's browser! (It also happens in Windows Explorer)

I know that this is primarily a PSP-problem, but is also made me wonder how XY deals with that folder-change: my previous idea was that it is dealt with entirely by XY, but now it seems as if XY queries Windows and launches a handler. Is is true - and is there a way to disable that? (To open folders with XY only WITHIN xy, I don't want to change the windows settings)

Duh, it got worse!

I uninstalled PSP. Attempting to open a folder (in XY or Explorer) then complained that can't find PSP. So I wenmt through the registry and removed all references to PSP.

Now Explorer opens folders again, life is good. But XY still attempts to use PSP! :veryconfused:

Did you try unchecking (and applying the new settings) and rechecking "Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | Default File Manager | XYplorer is default file manager"?

Ah, good idea, hadn't thought of that (though that shouldn't affect the navigation within xy, I'd have thought)

It's now off and still attempts to open folders in PSP...

Try this registry file.
Store it as name.reg and execute it.

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell]
 @="none"

 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
 @="none"

Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3527)
Portable XYplorer (actual version, including betas)
Everything 1.5.0.1372a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.73

Thanks Horst - these values are set. There must be some other mechanic in effect...

Same as before! (It doesn't matter if xy is the default file mgr or not for this problem.)

But, I forgot to mention - if I know click a folder in Explorer, it's opened in XY (which is to be expected after using this setting). However, if I click a folder in XY, it's opened in PSP :(

Not sure if that will help you, but viewtopic.php?p=191548#p191548 and that whole thread could be related to your problem as well?? Maybe it will help. And maybe not. But might be worth a shot.

Thanks - that sounded interesting, as he had rather similar symptoms. I read through that thread and checked those suggestions, but unfortunately none of that helped. I had also reported that issue to Corel, but their reply wasn't the most helpful helpful (set a Default Program for "Open With") and ended with the suggestion to take it to MS or XY :(

However, for some reason the "Open With" Context menu item has also disappeared, so I will investigate that and see where that takes me...(I will report back!)
