7-Zip file extraction not working?

Post by chumbo »

Hi,
I get an error when trying to extract a .rar file using the 7-Zip context menu ("file type not supported").
It works fine in Windows Explorer...any ideas?
Thanks!

Well...I'm clueless then. Very strange
One thing I noticed though, it works if, when I right-click the .rar file and first select 'Show 64-bit Context Menu..." and then select the 7-Zip context menu, only then it works...is that what you are all doing?

However, why is XYPlorer running at 32bit (as confirmed in my Task Manager) when I have a 64bit OS?
I'm using XY as portable and there is no separate 64bit installer and it seems to default to 32bit.
Is there anyway I can force a 64bit portable install?
Thanks!

XY is a 32-bit app, there is no 64-bit version^^

And what about my 64bit XY portable install issue? Is there a way to force a portable 64bit install?

Are you kidding us?

Title: 7-Zip file extraction not working?
First post: I get an error when trying to extract a .rar file using the 7-Zip context menu ("file type not supported").

And now you're posting a gif that clearly shows that you aren't using that context menu at all?

and I've already answered the question about XY 64-bit^^

Of course I'm not kidding. I missed that, it's stupid and I apologize. Sorry
I missed your other answer because it was after your gif (admit though, that was easy to miss)

I have installed the x64 version of 7-zip
and unset the option "Show the 64-bit context menu" in XY.
In this scenario there is no problem to get the 7-zip context menu entries and they work.

Maybe I should have clarified in my apology post that in fact that was my problem, what highend pointed out, that I confused the Zip and 7-Zip context menus.
Using the 7-Zip menu did work with no further tweaking needed.
Thanks just the same for your kind efforts in trying to help!
