Access to System Volume Information

Post by Aeolis »

Dear folks,

I have tried to access System Volume Information folder without success. I have run XYplorer 21.90 under Windows 7 and Windows 10 without administrator privileges and with administrator privileges. In any scenario I have tested I got the "access denied" screen.

Is it a XYplorer's safety lock ? Can I change it? Or XYplorer cannot open System Volume Information folder at all?

Best regards,

Aeolis

This has absolutely nothing to do with XY. It's a folder that's by default only accessible from the SYSTEM account.

How to "fix" that?

Dozens of tutorials...

You want a user without any knowledge regarding permissions to be able to mess up the whole system? oO

Thats his own risk.
There is no benefit to look into the System volume information but there are other places where system rights are useful..

For troubleshooting problems with restore points, there is...

PowerRun isn't using the SYSTEM account by default but the Trusted Installer's one^^
One accidental delete and you better have a full system image at hand

I know, I have PowerRun shorcuts on my desktop to start TC or XY with System account.
And of course I have daily full images made with Macrium Reflect.
In case of errors or mistakes its only about 10 minutes to have a full restore.
Also getting files or dirs back in minutes is just a few clicks away.
