Alternating Colors for Each line

Is there a way to have every other line a different shaded color for ease of reading across the view?

I must be missing something, because that setting does not alternate the lines for me. is there something else in addition to that?

Sorry..follow up. how can i change the color of the selection box, now that i changed the highlight color?
