And maybe less issues related to (high) DPI and 2-or-more monitors setups.

Hey - after all these years a surprising decision. :shock:
But I think it's really the best to do! :appl: :appl: :tup:

Also surprising: you only expect ~6 months?
OK: I hope you can do it - but I'm a bit sceptical.
But even if it will take a bit longer: I think it's worth it.

Congratulations!

Don, I think you'll find it not as daunting as you imagine.
I've had to learn different programming languages. I expect, like me, it will appear a mammoth task at first. Then it will all start to fall into place and you'll wonder what the problems were.
Good luck, I'm delighted that you've decided to write in a modern language.

Just something to bear in mind regarding the decision to use VB.NET vs C#:

With the upcoming release of .NET 5, VB.NET is going into maintenance mode. Microsoft's focus will be on C# going forward for new features and future development.

Wow, that's EXCITING! :appl: :appl:
And macOS & Linux - how cool is that?!
There are no emojis for this situation!

Let there be fireworks!

That's exactly what I thought as well.

Perfect year, though: Full shut down with a hoped-for ending date but with a good chance that it will be longer than hoped-for. Which is no problem regarding XY: For the long time future of this important program this step had to be taken some time. Now is the best time.

Full support!! :tup:

It's 250,000 lines of code. But you know, I hired a company to do what can be done in an automated way. Otherwise it would not be possible. My work will start where the machines fall short. Still no walk in the park, but possible.

If you do it, do it with C#
I can still remember radbasic.dev still following the project.
You no longer have faith and hope here?

I think something will happen this year, also concerning vb6.
But of course you can't rely on that in your position .. in order to earn your daily bread. Net will never be mine either

Good luck!

So, always not a double tree for double pane if my understanding is correct ?
Thanks

This is a feature wish and has nothing to do with the programming language. Please don't abuse this thread for wishes.

:ugeek: that's one great news! (maybe prefer C# over vb.net)
i'd be more than happy to alpha test on linux.

```rant
I've got a big complaint about linux fms, this is as good a place to report it as any.
I've often come across apps that work well on one env but blunder around like a blind martian on others.
most file managers here are usually deeply integrated into a particular desktop system (kde, gnome, deepin, mate etc). and the ones that are desktop-agnostic, often end up missing or breaking useful features such as file associations, icons, thumbnailing, storage support, etc. developer lazyness or something else, I don't know.
a net app will (should) look the same on all environments, but after the initial migration is done, please try to minimize friction between xyplorer and those pesky desktop differences.
```

all the best for a speedy migration :cup:

i don't feel much joy about .Net as i never saw any fast+resource-friendly app on it, but oh well, will wait to see what will come. :ninja:
