Preview Videos Issue

Post by PsychicDeath »

Hello. I am new to XYplorer.
When I click on a video the preview pops up on the side with a still image. Is it suppose to play or preview in motion? That would be ideal.
I have an error message at the bottom of the screen.
" playing failed :Automation error "

Hi and welcome,

Can you post your XYplorer and Windows version? If your XYplorer version is not 20.80.0200, can you upgrade to it via Help > Online Support > Check for Updates?

This actually did solve something. .avi files now preview and did not before. But still .mp4 is not working and that is my most common video file type. Any ideas?

Did you try to show the video in the Preview tab of the Info Panel (F12)?

Same problem here. F11, Ctrl+F11, F12 all just show a still image and the same message on the status bar. Still on 20.80.100.

WMV works fine, while VOB's only play audio. Can't find any AVI's at the moment.

Then you don't have the necessary codecs on board. The K-Lite Codec Pack does a good job here.

Ok, so even though VLC plays everything I have (presumably through their 'plug-ins' and not OS integrated codecs) I need K-Lite for other 3rd party apps?

If VLC does not install 32-bit codecs it's useless for XY.

Ah, ok, I had not considered that. I only saw one download there and it's a 64-bit version.

I'm not sure exactly. I hit (F12) and it brings up something. I cycled through those tabs and did not find anything particularly helpful. Maybe I am missing something?

I read on further in this forum and saw something about 32-bit codecs. I use Gom Player Pro. I looked on their website and found 32 bit codecs but I'm not sure which one I would need.

The tab you want is called "Preview".

Okay. So this is pretty much blank but it has some text.

It says :
Preview created by the shell.

And under that is (Size:) and (File Size:)

Yep, the shell's thumbnail provider (still image) kicks in as a last resort when the codecs needed for the preview (the playing of the video) are not found.

Oh okay. So how do I pick the correct codec? There is many options to download it seems.
