Use Live Filter Box to Not Show What It Contains

Post by hermhart »

Is there a way that you can use the Live Filter Box by having it show everything in the List that the Live Filter Box does not contain?

The help file answers that question

To quote the Help:
There is one difference to Visual Filters though: Live Filters behave like Type Ahead Find and treat ! and # as normal literal characters. In other words Live Filters do not support extended pattern matching (! = Boolean NOT, # = wildcard for digits).
Sounds like a No to me.

But I kind of like the idea of an inverse Live Filter. Any ideas how to do it? A prefix (!, -), or a toggle in the Live Filter right-click menu?

I did see that part earlier in the help section, but I thought that I was somehow overlooking something.

What about like you say with having a toggle in the Live Filter right-click menu? That way there is no confusion thinking that Booleans work there.

A "!" is imho the best option. Normal filters work that way and it's immediately visible instead of a right click option

Would there be an escape for the '!' if you actually had files that you wanted to search with the '!' in it?

I'll add it as a tweak in the next beta, so you can play with it... :)

Listing items that do not include the LiveFilter contents is exactly what I need.

But I can't find the tweak mentioned above. No combo of "!" or "NOT" etc work, and nothing like "Invert" is on the right-click menu (which might be a good place). Since it worked for others I must be missing something...

Is there a fast way to see eg. all folders that do not contain the term "blue"?
