Creating a catalog for multiple hard drives

Post by DanielMcKinney »

I've got over a dozen old drives that I would like to create a catalog for. I had previously used a freeware utility called Cathy which worked great, but was wondering if I could do something similar with XYplorer.

Basically, what I want to do is load each drive one by one into my hot swap bay and have XYplorer create a record of what's on the drive that I can easily refer to when the drives aren't mounted. is this possible?

Thanks!

OK, just looking at Catalogs for the first time! I'm assuming this is the way to do it - will delve into it a little deeper...

F12, Tab "Report", Tab "Current Folder", [x] Include subfolders
Button "To File..."
and generate a report for each of your drives...

I don't mean to sound like a dope, but how can I convert the resulting .CSV file into a tree structure similar to what's presented in a file browser? I know how to pop a .CSV into a spreadsheet, but that's not quite what I was looking for

I want to be able to browse through offline hard drives' directories with XYplorer as if the drive were connected. Does that make sense?

Browsing the whole structure offline? That's not possible within XY.
There is only (a very simplified) feature: paperfolders.

If zombies are allowed in paperfolders you could see all files (without any metadata like size, dates, etc.)
but without any folder structure...

OK! Thanks for the response! I guess the best thing is to stick with Cathy or similar freeware catalog utility.
