Video thumbnails in my XYplorer no longer work.

I had been playing around with the thumbnail caching options, and now video thumbs no longer show at all. I had reverted the cache settings to what they had been before, but to no effect.
Image thumbnails work fine, however.

Does anyone have a hint what the reason could be, and how to repair it?
(in the standard Windows Explorer, video thumbs still work fine, BTW)

First off, make sure this is still enabled:

Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Show thumbnails for non-images

And just while troubleshooting, temporarily disable the cache completely:

Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Cache thumbnails on disk

If they are both set, and you still don't have thumbnails, XY utilizes external codecs to create the thumbnails, usually most are built into Windows, but have you been installing/uninstalling codec packs or similar software recently? It also needs 32bit codecs so if you have un-checked the 32bit codecs checkbox when installing a codec pack, that could cause a problem.

That was the culprit. I must have been blind for not noticing it before...
