OT: Comparative Forum Stats

Post by admin »

Just visited the TC forum (https://www.ghisler.ch/board/index.php), also a file manager, and I was surprised about their forum stats compared to those of XY. The same type of application but totally different usage patterns in the forums! Who can explain that?

Code: Select all

TC: Total posts 339211 • Total topics 44281 • Total members 289762 = 1.17 posts per member; 0.15 topics per member
XY: Total posts 165827 • Total topics 18354 • Total members 6653 = 24.92 posts per member; 2.76 topics per member

One thing that struck me was the average number of posts per user. Isn't that a bit odd? The number of total users is significantly different but just over 1 post per member. That data seems to reflect a very low involvement of the users on the forum. Of course just as you could say on XY's forum, there are some that have hundreds and even thousands of posts and many others have a small number. But, the average is still very low. Possibly they are automatically added to the forum listing just for becoming trial members or registered users. That might explain their low average of posts per forum member. I don't have TC so I don't know and there are other stats that are needed to properly analyse the comparison like total registered users and trial users of TC.

TC forum's membership is approximately 43 times greater than XY's yet they have a little over twice the number of total posts. :eh:

the memberlist sorted by post count. and some intelligent paging: memberlist.php?sk=d&sd=d&start=2700
(I see the numbers have changed already due to member activity.)

OK, I was not aware that you have the rights to see the memberlist at TC.

all regular members can see that. :)
anyway, what I found interesting is that all members over there have at least 1 post (apparently mostly one-off bug reports). But here almost half of the created accounts are inactive with 0 posts. Maybe XY has less bugs :ugeek:

I'm not a regular member so I don't know about these things.

So many zero post accounts! That's really odd. In none in the TC forum? It's getting strange and stranger. I'm glad that all this is just useless facts. :)
