Can I upgrade from version 15 without losing settings?
Can I upgrade from version 15 without losing settings?
I have a Pro license. I just upgraded from version 15 and all my settings were lost. I know it is a long time to go without updating. Is there a way to upgrade without losing my settings?

It depends a bit on the settings but generally XYplorer attempts the best possible upgrade from ANY previous version. If you send me your settings by email I can see what went wrong.

How do I email you?
By settings I wasn't referring to the configuration options. I haven't checked those yet. I'm referring to the layout of panels, tabs and catalogs.

Here's an idea: Use the freezer and go upwards step by step:
https://www.xyplorer.com/freezer.php
Not every step of course. Start in the middle, and repeat in the lower or upper half depending on the success.

My old brain finally remembered I had a similar issue the last time I updated several years ago. I found my notes which say to delete "startup.ini" after upgrading. That took care of my issue. I keep the data and executable in the same folder.
I'm surprised you still store your files in two locations. For me that negates one of the benefits of having a portable application.

Your home page says
Why doesn't my install work that way? Why does it default to having configuration data in another location after upgrading?XYplorer is a portable file manager. It doesn’t require any installation, stores all configuration data in the application data folder, and running it doesn’t change your system or registry. Take it with you and start it from a USB stick.
Re: Can I upgrade from version 15 without losing settings?
XYplorer comes in two flavors:
* an installer that installs the app like a regular installed program and writes settings to %AppData%
* and a portable zip/rar archive. The portable archives are portable.
Download the portable one from here. https://www.xyplorer.com/download.php
If you really want to make sure XY remains portable no matter what, make a file "Startup.ini" in XYplorer's application folder with this content:

Re: Can I upgrade from version 15 without losing settings?
I got the impression from the wording on the home page that there was only a portable version now.
Also, on the download page, the description under the installer says it is portable.
Good idea.If you really want to make sure XY remains portable no matter what, make a file "Startup.ini" in XYplorer's application folder with this content:Code: Select all

Thanks.
