Some JPGs don't show thumbs.

Post by eil »

since like 2 month i noticed sometimes images saved from same page, same .jpg format, don't get thumbs and show "Cannot decode' for Hover box, though files are fine, normally open in XnView. i don't think it's an XY bug, but what's that? did anybody experience smt similar?
just to be sure i didn't miss some "new jpg" variant, installed last SageThumbs - didn't help.

found out that it has smt to do with browsers: last Opera saves some jpgs so that XY "cant decode", while Firefox saves fine.

Code: Select all

These are not JPGs but WEBP. Chrome can show them, but File Explorer or XYplorer cannot. Need a preview handler.

BTW, WebP is amazing. Incredibly small file sizes.

i had some thoughts about it may be other format and noticed smaller size.. but why Chrome saves some files as .webp especially with .jpg extension, while Firefox saves them as normal .jpg?! i mean it's one and the same page.
is there a way to add this handler, or there is no solution for now?

I don't know any solution. Chrome probably does not need a handler but does the trick natively.

Installing the WebP codec should work (edit: I downloaded your sample images, it does work, even while they have the jpg extension) :

https://codecpack.co/download/WebP-Code ... ndows.html

Great! Confirmed for Win8.1. Works without a reboot. Installs these files:

C:\Program Files\WebP Codec\WebpWICCodec.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\WebP Codec\WebpWICCodec.dll

(both are: Copyright (c) 2010, Google Inc. All rights reserved.)

and 2 sample files.

Strangely it's not seen by

Code: Select all

text get("previewhandler", "webp");

Weird. According to their docs it should work on Win7.
