Save XYplorer data immediately

Post by John_C »

There exists an option to save XYplorer data immediately, instead of on exit:

Code: Select all

Tools > Configuration > Startup & Exit > Save changes to disk immediately
Personally, I found it useful. But doesn't it give additional work for HDD/SSD and therefore reduces it's life time?

(This is probably very stupid question, I understand).

HDD
Only if it pulls a HDD out of standby mode
SSD
Depends on how much data needs to be written. Every time with a 100 MB tag.dat file? Probably a tiny bit.
With a few kb? In that case instead of lasting 10 years+ it will probably only last 9 years and 360 days+...

My oldest SSD (all of them are Samsung ones) is now over 6 years old, has 80 TB written and is still in perfect condition
and will probably be that for the next 6 years to come...

@highend So, as I understand, most powerusers have this option turned on (just a guess) ?
