Relative paths for color labels

Post by John_C »

Please, could somebody explain where and how color labels are stored?

Here is what I mean:

Click "Tools > Configuration > Tags" and select "Relative to tags databse" as "Storage" option.

Then, add green color label to some file.

And then, open your tag.dat file. It will look something like this:

Code: Select all

Storage: 3 (Relative to tags database)

Data:
C:\Foo\Bar\Test.txt|4|||||||
Hm. As I understand, it should be relative path stored in tag.dat file, but currently, it is stored as absolute. Why?

And your tag.dat is located where?
Probably not on the C: drive...

Hm. Yes, you are correct! But why it doesn't store relative paths for files located on another drives?

Ok, I understand :)

If we want to have relative paths, we should keep XYplorer database and all labeled files on the same drive?

There are no workarounds?

Workarounds that keep the entries "portable"? Switch to "Use volume serials"^^ Apart from that: no
