afdesign preview

although win explorer gives me a preview of *.afdesign files XYplorer doesnt here
I tried to enter the file extension in preferences/category/imagefiles
get cannot decode...
no idea how to enter userDefinedPreviewHandler !

Edit: I get the hover pop-up preview but not in the preview pane where it saiz cannot decode

why is the "show hover box" displaying the preview and not the preview pane??

Aha. AFAIK the preview method use by the hover box accesses the Windows preview cache. So when anything else previewed the file, then the hover box can get it from the cache.

But it's still curious that the other previews don't fall back to this method.

Yes Yes enough to see precisely what the file is about

Had to do a registry modification as it seems that win10 does flush its thumb cache too aggressively since the creators fall update

Please check the values of these tweaks:

I assume you have PreviewShellIfNoneBetter=0. That would explain it. Set it to 1.

Well, that leaves me baffled and clueless about this case. All the previews use the same code, of course. It does not seem possible that the Hover Box does any better with an image than any of the other image previews.
