The real question, is, "Why does Directory Opus have them in the wrong spot?"

In the Preview Pane XYplorer tries to preview through any installed preview handlers first (which usually come with their own controls). If that fails it tries to preview through Quartz.dll (aka DirectShow). In the latter case XY's internal media controls (Play, Pause, Stop, Autoplay) are shown in the Preview Tab. You are right that it would be better to show them in the Preview Pane. I'll make a note for later.

In the Preview Tab the sequence of trials is vice versa.

It would make for better consistency to have controls in the Preview Pane (when necessary). For those who don't normally have the info panel open, it is a bit a of a pain (pun intended) to have to open the info panel along with the preview pane to have the necessary controls in the preview tab. So if Preview Panel is open, controls would be in there; if Info Panel is open, controls are there unless the Preview Panel is open. I would think that even if the user has the Info Panel open, it still would be best to have the controls in the Preview Pane provided the Preview Pane is open. If the Info Panel is open with no Preview Panel then it would be as it is now. I take it you would have to detect whether the preview handler has or showing it's own controls.

Yes, as I said made a note.

OTOH hand this is a very special case. Normally you either have the preview handlers or you get no preview at all.

My most commonly used video format is mkv. The video preview is fine but with no controls in the Preview Pane. I must open the Info Panel > Preview Tab. This must be the case with some other users like the OP. My default video program is MediaPlayerClassic-Home Cinema and it plays everything I throw at it. All my videos play fine in Info Panel > Preview Tab as well.

I checked it but it's not feasible. To preview media for which you don't have a 32-bit preview handler you should use the preview tab instead of the preview pane IF you want the controls.

Don or anyone else, last week I installed the K-Lite codec package (Basic), which contains both 32-bit and 64-bit codecs. I still have no video controls on my Preview Panel. There is however an extensive tweak tool that comes with the package. I was wondering if anyone else out there using that codec package or similar with Windows 10 Pro x64 or similar has the controls in the Preview Panel or know how to obtain them using the tweaking tool? Is there some trick to that? I'm most interested in getting the controls for mkv and mp4 videos in the Preview Panel without having to use the Info Panel Preview Tab. Thanks.

Those controls come from WMP I think. So for some reason WMP does not support mkv. (Or does it? Then at least not 32-bit.)

Any way you could come up with a Status Bar area controls for those videos similar to the way you handle the new audio preview feature? So the controls wouldn't be associated with the Preview Panel at all, only on the Status Bar, and only if the info panel is not open to the Preview Tab. That would be kind of slick and consistent with audio.

Hi Don, I installed the K-Lite video codec package (which installs both x32 and X64) on my laptop. I don't see any controls on the status bar for any of my videos (e.g., mp4, avi, wmv, etc.) All the controls are available in the Info Panel Preview Tab for all the same videos. I do have the audio preview controls on the status bar.

For anyone out there, I was wondering if other users see the controls on the status bar or not or if there's some setting either in XYplorer or the K-Lite package that must be changed. I'm away from home so I haven't tried my desktop yet.

Edit: FYI, space bar does stop and start the videos when the Info Panel is not shown, but that probably was case before beta v19.00.0007.

As said in the change log: They are only shown for an audio or video file that has no associated preview handler but still is previewable using DirectShow/quartz.dll.

Oh. Is that maybe a bug? :bug:
