I really want to make XYplorer my main explorer but I'm unable to see custom icon overlays. This is the main reason why I haven't be able to fully switch over yet.
I use a little application called FileMarker.NET and it simply allows you to assign icons to individual files. I use this for colour coding, priority listing, ghosting old files etc.
The reason this is so powerful and convenient is that I'm able to see my coloured tags directly within applications whenever the default Windows Open/Save dialog box is forced upon me!
For example, this is how one project folder looks in Windows Explorer with file icon overlays:
Here's the same folder again, but this time in XYplorer:
What's interesting is that it does show the file icon correctly in the bottom right Status bar!
I've tried so many different settings and combinations of options but I can never get it to work. The closest I've managed is by switching to Thumbnails - the overlay appears on top of the thumb.. but it's really confusing working with the files like this:
It seems like the functionality is right there in XYplorer, I just don't know how to access it correctly These are my current settings via the Various Information dialog:
