Custom copy: Name collision
Custom copy: Name collision
The logic in this panel if confusing to me:
When a Name collision is detected, the panel displays three options: button 'Overwrite' button 'Skip' and Selection 'Overwrite if newer'.
If I click OK without touching anything else, what action will be taken?

Also missing the "increment name" by adding a "1"
Re: Custom copy: Name collision
I kind of wish there were a date-irrelevant selection, since we're wishing - or overwrite if smaller. Date irrelevant with name and size-based option in Sync Select as well, for that matter - since we're wishing.

There is "Overwrite if different size or date".Dustydog wrote:I kind of wish there were a date-irrelevant selection, since we're wishing - or overwrite if smaller. Date irrelevant with name and size-based option in Sync Select as well, for that matter - since we're wishing.

Just wish date were an option to remove from the matches. Appreciate what's there though. You can imagine scenarios.admin wrote:There is "Overwrite if different size or date".Dustydog wrote:I kind of wish there were a date-irrelevant selection, since we're wishing - or overwrite if smaller. Re: Custom copy: Name collision
OK, understood now. Maybe later. Adding such an option is a LOT of work.

Re: Custom copy: Name collision
Don,
The addition of a label OLD and NEW next to each of the two files may help clarify the logic for many.
NEW = file you are attempting to place in a folder
OLD = file that exists or is present in the folder in question
At the moment you have the two lines in reverse from other similar programs.

Re: Custom copy: Name collision
Thanks for noting that. I actually took this weird order from Explorer (which is my undesired but natural role model for such decisions). And each time I see this dialogue I cringe and I need to adjust my brain to this stupid order.pat55 wrote:At the moment you have the two lines in reverse from other similar programs.
Shouldn't I simply reverse it? So: Source at top -> Target at bottom?

Re: Custom copy: Name collision
just my opinion: always had to think twice what is source for me and what is target, usually one doesn't think about it. so more simple/obvious words would be welcome.admin wrote:Shouldn't I simply reverse it? So: Source at top -> Target at bottom?

Re: Custom copy: Name collision
Ah! This thread must be about the changes in the collision dialog. I talked about it in the "Thanks Feature" and think I might as well suggested it here. Perhaps the arrow should be green? Also, it seems like the arrow is not centered well enough. Not a big issue or anything but it's just kind of evident.
