Re: VER 17.40.0104
you lost me.. I'm trying to get this to work
which buttons for what you have in mind.
Tech names for things differ widely from program to program. (yes there is a name for that -that is not so nice)

Re: VER 17.40.0104
I know, that's why I have sent you a screenshot with Preview tab. And I will send it again here. Look at the picture and try to find the Preview tab. Tip: it's the tab that is selected. It is the large grey area that makes up the lower half of the screenshot. In the middle of the tab you see a preview of the selected PDF file. It has the words "CODING ACADEMY 2015" in large white letters on black background.

Re: VER 17.40.0104
Ok, finally. This tells me that your Sumatra installation does indeed not work with XY. No idea why. But nothing in XY (no configuration and no fix) can change that.

PDF-Xchange editor is what is used now (as you can see with the generic icons) - just as you proposed.
Does it not work with XY?

Re: VER 17.40.0104
I personally use the free PDF-XChange Viewer (which has different icons). But for all I know the Editor works as well. I recommend both for many years and AFAIK they always delivered reliably.
I cannot explain why you don't get a preview nor thumbnails. This is unheard of. Something must have gone badly wrong. Maybe some Adobe products have not uninstalled fully, They are always good for mischief.

I use PS CS6 and not Flash - no other Adobe comes to mind except perhaps in FFox.
I suspect M$ for another one of their games and updates that blindside everyone. They finally fixed the PDF icon for their products - I think.
This PC is Win 10 pro latest update - 64bit - twin 4K screens.
Will you let me know when (not if) you find an answer :-)
There should be all kinds of experts here that have encountered this problem - but just ignored it and not shared their brilliance - yet.

PS Did the manual sort blocking ??? get resolved with a happy end.

Re: VER 17.40.0104
This morning I tested XY on my backup PC with all the same settings for XY.
Sumatra icons and thumbnails all displayed perfectly - in spite of what has been stated here or perhaps elsewhere.
The only difference is that the backup PC is 7 to 10 year old - average economy hardware, no SSDs or high resolution monitors.
This PC was updated to the same Win 10 64bit from Win 7.
My primary PC is all the latest and greatest 2015 premium hardware - could this by why XY does not like it and will not display all
PDF thumbnails.
Both PCs have been very stable and I know of no similar software problem in either one.
Does anybody else have a similar problem?

Re: VER 17.40.0104
Hi Pat55..
I had similiar problems as you w/pdf's. using win7 64 here. just recently got my fav pdf viewer sumatra64 (much faster than 32bit) to work perfectly with XY in every way promised...Has taken forever. I'm just a user/hacker, and have just joined board, but have a lot of XY time invested..
I don't want to write up a long how-to unless you (or someone) needs it.
regards, bobcrash

Hi bobcrash,
Your reluctance to spend a lot more time to share a solution is fully
justified and understandable especially in light of all of us being
directed to the "FAQ." The simple translation is to not post here.
I also went to the FAQ (as directed) and came away with little more than
the following two quotes:
"Then came VB6 (1998) which added some final polish."
"It is written in VB6 so it can only be crap."
I find that disclosure as significant since just as DOS, Win 95 and the XP
were all be taken out behind the barn and shot - in spite of being
perfectly good software. It is a shame that XY will likely suffer a
premature death because it is written in obsolete code and that time and
'improvements' waits for no one.
As I explained in an earlier message - I have an older very average
economy PC and one of with the latest and greatest of everything including
the twin 4K monitors. Both run the latest up to date Win 10 and XYbeta -
I have been careful to go thought matching every item of every page of the
entire Configuration file - and as you can see the outcomes have no
explanation - other than the difference in hardware (or that I made a
mistake comparing line by line).
My conclusion is that XY runs best on vintage hardware without the
powerful processors needed to power the 4K monitors etc.
I wish that in a perfect world everyone would freely share any questions
or solutions without the fear of being ignored or ridiculed in some way
period.
There seems to be plenty of readers who perhaps think along the
lines such as "been there-done that" <grin>.
Yes I would like to see your solution to the PDF problem and thanks for
taking the time to reply.

pat55: Looks like you did not understand what I'm trying to say in that FAQ. And your conclusion is wrong. I can't even imagine how you would come to this conclusion. Are you even aware of XY's reputation? Ever googled it? Sorry, but you astonish me a bit.
