Making Global Visual Filters more obvious

Post by aurumdigitus »

(Full disclosure: this is basically a repeat request.)

Global Visual Filters is an often used tool. The drawback is that when leaving XY for a period of time that can be several hours then returning often forget it is active.

Can a way be found by scripting, magical incantation or any other means to make it obvious it is in use?

What would be ideal is some type of colored bar like that shows up when Visual Filter is operating.

Yes, it is easy to forget that you have a global filter activated especially when you're old. "Oh yeah, that's why the file's not there." The toolbar button is at times not obvious or not visible enough to flag whether a filter is on or not. Maybe something like...the capability to have a preset list panel background color to flag when a filter is ON. The user could have his own color specified (if desired) in the Colors in Configuration (i.e., List - Background [filter on] - FFB7B7). It could be scripted but would be cleaner and for everyone if built-in to XY.

That is true but it's diminutive size makes it all too easy to overlook which brings us back to square one. What is needed is something bold and "in your face". :P

But it's (also) the idea of global filters to work somewhere in the background. Like when you hide all desktop.ini or thumbs.db files, that's set and forget, you don't really want an in your face reminder all the time.
