xyplorer hangs opening folder with lots of files

i have a folder with 67150 smalll files in it. it opens pretty quickly with explorer.exe, but hangs for quite a while in xyplorer as the file count grows in the bottom window frame in red text. once it finally reaches 671250, xyplorer is usable again. i'm guessing xyplorer thinks something is wrong since the file count it shows is in red text.

i'm guessing there might be some settings to help improve this behavior, but i don't know which setting(s) to change?
does anyone have any idea?

besides that, this is an awesome product that I wish I discovered before!

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean paste that into the address bar while not in that local folder? or with that folder open already?

Paste it into the address bar. But instead of writing {ENTER} you hit the enter key.
A new instance of XYplorer opens with fresh settings. Navigate to that folder that you mentioned.
Same behavior as before?

It says I can't do that with the free version.
So, I extracted xyplorer zip file to a brand new default portable folder and tried it. Same results.

Can't tell what's wrong (but I don't use the free version)...

I have no problems here with a folder that contains 70k files. Takes about a second after entering it to populate the list.

You can also run a fresh instance with this command line, instead of scripting:

xyplorer.exe /fresh

One thing that could slow down the listing is having custom columns that extract info from each file, but that's probably not happening in your case, and wouldn't happen in a fresh instance. What kind of files are in the folder? And are you displaying thumbnails or icons in the list or details or basic list?

the files are an image cache from LaunchBox game front end. this cache is of small game images to show as images inside the game front end's user interface. i am just using a detailed view in xyplorer, not as icons or tiles or anything like that

Ah, I see. Unfortunately I can't reproduce it with the last XY Free version (v17.40.0100).
70.000 files, under one second to load the list...

You cannot run in /fresh mode from the Windows command line either, using the free version?

One thing that might play a role: You added XYplorer.exe to the list of excluded processes in your Antivirus solution?

i don't have any type of AV or other security software installed or running at all. i use free version 17.00.0100

Not even Windows Defender? Which OS are you running?
To which folder exactly did you extract the "fresh" .zip file?
