Thanks for the numbers, folks! Next version will refine the measuring and dive deeper into the flow at some points.

No, that was a little oversight by me (did not check the Maxi Tree flow).

A bit late to this contest, cannot keep up with the top racers it seems

Maybe it's worth mentioning that I have neither tree nor catalog showing. Is it necessary to load them anyway, just in case? Not that it makes much difference in my case, just wondering ...

Yes, a little Tree loading is necessary. Just in case you want to show it later... :)

Your results are remarkable. As far as I see you are the only one losing most milliseconds in "Init 0" and "Init 1". Hmmm...

What does this mean spelled out in plain talk? What happens during those init-phases, maybe I can shed some light on it. I do have tons of CTBs that call submenus....

Here is my "XYskinny.ini"(being open via command line /ini=...)
Various Information
Settings that may affect speed

XYplorer: 15.00.0202 (Pro Edition - Lifetime License Pro)
Upgraded from: 15.00.0118
Loaded in: 82,536 ms at 3/25/2015 7:36:14 AM
Uptime: 3 mins
Memory Usage: 36,680 KB, Virtual Memory Size: 20,356 KB

OS: Windows 7 Enterprise (Service Pack 1), 32-bit (6.1)
OS Uptime: 12 mins, 59 secs
UTC Offset: --07:00
User Role: Admin
Themes: Yes

1) A 'Yes' might slow down file operations and browsing:
AutoRefresh = Yes
Network = No
Removables = Yes
During File Ops = No
SHChangeNotify = Yes
Get Folder Sizes = No
Check Existence of Subfolders in Tree = Yes
Autosize Columns = Yes
Icon Overlays = No

2) The bigger (more), the slower:
Tags: tag.dat has 444 bytes (0 tagged items)
Color Filters: No (0 active filters)
Custom File Icons: No (180 active icons)
Remember Tree State: No
MiniTreePaths: 1 paths
MaxiTreePaths: 1 paths

3) A 'Yes' will speed up browsing:
Generic Icons = No
Generic Icons Network Only = No
Generic Icons For All Controls = No

4) A 'Yes' might slow down selecting an item:
File Info Tips = No
File Info Tips Custom = No

5) A 'Yes' might speed up startup:
Cache network servers = No
Servers: servers.dat has 0 servers
No network browsing on startup = Yes

Slowdown cause number one: An active virus scanner can severely slow down file operations and make XYplorer less responsive. Especially Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender can have a dramatic negative effect on speed. Try to add XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe to the exceptions.
And my normal "xyplorer.ini" (being open via command line /ini=...)
This is the second launch since reboot.... Which usually is a little quicker anyway...

Hmm, weird. There is some upgrading code, but it should be very quick. And I cannot repro it here.

PS: Maybe some AV is scanning the new EXE, making the start slow?

You probably did not see this:

Code: Select all

    + Help | Various Information: Hold CTRL+SHIFT when clicking the menu item
      and you get detailed information about the application load times.

You are correct!
Okay here we go:
Did a reboot, then relaunched. No command line this time, just plain old xyplorer.exe.
Was also "unresponsive" for a while after opening. Hit [Esc] to cancel my CCs... Still a little unresponsive, but Chrome is too, so...

Then closed Xy, and (without another reboot) launched ini=XYskinny.ini...

So is this

16,746 ms: 27 ms - Init 1

telling me it's the tree that is the problem, or is it "init 1?"

========================
EDIT: If I close and re-open the same profile (this is my normal profile) multiple times, it is a lot faster... Switching profiles, or first launch after reboot, are what slows things down.

Wow, that's SLOW. :shock:

Are you starting on some slow network location, and/or have many slow network drives expanded in the tree?

Is your machine generally slow?
Is your HD generally slow?
