"Save Configuration" does the job (save INI file).

The asterisk, well, this is not 100% anyway. If it's there then there is a change. But if it's not there, that does not mean that there is no change. IOW, not all changes are registered. And on startup? No, not possible.

6 years later I'm having the same issue and the thread does not provide a definitive answer if XYplorer even supports the feature at all.

I have read it and it provides absolutely no answer how to coax thumbnail previews for videos out of XYplorer. I'm a content creator, I make videos for a living. I have 7 terabytes of it. Not having thumbnails for their folders OR having to manually create them, i.e. having to deploy literally hundreds of thousands of folder.jpgs would be a total deal-breaker for me.

Can XYplorer display folder thumbnails for videos, yes/no?

Hi Don, along the lines of this subject matter, would it be possible to extend the capability of SC savethumb to also include video files (e.g., mov, mpg, mp4, avi, etc.). Xyplorer is capable already of generating thumbs for most video type files so why not extend SC savethumb to include this capability. This way we can script using savethumb to generate thumbnails for a video file (either a particular one or a random one contained in a folder of video files) which can be named folder.jpg. The result would be a main parent folder of videos which would have proper video folder thumbnail for each of the video folders under it. It could look similar to the image folder zoom-to-fill folder thumbnails shown here viewtopic.php?p=135520#p135520 , but for videos in lieu of images. Thanks.

Yes it can, make sure this is enabled:

Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | [x] Show folder thumbnails

And set this tweak:

FolderThumbsShell=1

follow these instructions closely on how to tweak: https://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=tweak

Changed the logic. The next beta will show video thumbnails for folders if it finds nothing else to show.

Jupe, thank you. I had FolderThumbs set as 1 but not FolderThumbsShell. So that works, but obviously setting it will only show the folder thumbs like as shown in the yusef88's first post (i.e., a thumb pic within a folder).

Don, is it possible to expand SC savethumb as I mentioned above such that we can use it to generate a folder.jpg file for the video files within a folder? In you beta 22.20.0204, XY will now use a folder.jpg which is great. This means we can display an actual thumbnail for a folder of videos and not the pics with in a folder thumb as shown in the first post. But, generating the the folder.jpg is still an issue. It would be helpful if we could use SC savethumb to accomplish that and also automate the process via scripting. Thanks.

Thanks Don. Tested and it works as stated in the 22.20.0204 beta notes. That is, XY uses the folder.jpg if present and if not, uses the first video file thumbnail. The SC savethumb change will allow us to automate the behavior.

Again thanks Don for the including video files for SC savethumb. A reminder to update SC savethumb in the help file - scripting commands reference. :tup:
