Don, can you please look into this?
PDF Xchange Editor installs both 32 and 64 bit shell extensions, so it shouldn't be too difficult to fix.
(PS: I don't want to complain like in http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 24#p121024 , but I think it's time for XY to be more robust PDF-wise, not being able to reliably get pdf thumbs after years of complaints from many different users is... well, it gives food for thought.)

I learned something new recently regarding thumbnails, and it's on my list to apply my new insights...

(Just to make sure: No thumbnail problems here at all.)

You mean that PDFXchange Editor gives you thumbnails in XY??

Ok, then try the Editor. You can see with ShellExView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html) that the 32 bit extension is installed (Options > Show 32 bit etc.). It should be trivial for you, from there, figuring out what's the culprit and finally get pdf thumbs.

Can someone please tell me in simple terms how to get XYplorer to show pdf thumbnail previews? The View setting I selected is Thumbnails #2 (128x128), but instead of showing the first pages of the pdf documents, each document is represented by an icon labeled "PDF." I'm using Foxit Phantompdf Business on Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit.

I fixed this by switching to the no install version of XY. I use Acrobat 7.0 PRO (CS2) on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bits. Enable Shell Thumbnails must be on.

There is no "Enable Shell Thumbnails" in current versions. It's now called "Show thumbnails for non-images".

This has nothing to do with "no install version". There is only one XYplorer Pro Edition -- install and no install are 100% identical.

I have two versions installed on my laptop, only the no install version shows PDF thumbnails.

1) Which version number(s)?

2) You see this difference also with fresh instances? (http://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=fresh)

Yes, I still see the difference...

a. Free Edition 13.60, installer version, tried running with the /fresh switch and it still shows no thumbs for PDF files (I have a screenshot)

b. 30-day Trial 14.30.0300, no install (portable), shows the PDF thumbs just fine, also in "fresh;" mode

I assumed the key difference was install/no install, but I guess it may also have to do with the different version numbers?

...or with free/full?

I think you should have mentioned before...

Edit: I could have say it in a different way: there are 2 big and a very small difference between your XYs. The big are version and free/full, very very small (and not at all in the program code) is installed/portable. The only difference is the location of customization files.

Sorry for not mentioning all the details the first time, maybe you're right it's about the different versions, however I tried other versions too and the only thing that made a difference for me was switching to no install. I was just trying to help though.

Hello,
I have the same problem with 15.80.0100.
I also have the latest version of PDF Xchange Editor installed (5.5.315.0).
PDF thumbnails are working fine within Windows explorer.
