How to start off using XYplorer? To much to comprehend

Post by JamesRdixon »

I am brand new to this site and so far I'm bamboozled, my 76 year old brain just can't take it all in, there is so much to get your head round, it gives me a headache, any advice on how to start off steadily and then gradually get the hang of it would be much appreciated, (please explain in plain English) thank you, JamesRdixon.

Hi JamesRdixon,
Welcome to the club. Age doesn't matter much. I'm not quite your age but I'm no spring chicken either. Start off by taking the XYplorer Tour http://www.xyplorer.com/tour/index.php. From there, I'd check out the Features List here http://www.xyplorer.com/features.php. Remember to click on the blue arrows in the Text column or the video when available.

Take your time and toy with the features. Take a look at the Usage Tips as well http://www.xyplorer.com/usage.php Before you know it, you'll be experimenting with scripting. The forum here can be very helpful if/when you have specific questions. Most of all have fun, don't stress out and enjoy the best file manager!

What I did was read through much of the documentation, and *all* of the release notes on the website. Start with 7.00, read it, click on the 7.1 tab and read *it*, and keep going higher and higher until you reach the current version (14.8 something). There are a *lot* of them, and each is pretty interesting.

Then just pick your favorite thing and give a try!

Yeah what aliteralmind suggest is a good one as well. Not only are those things fun to read due to all the pretty pictures (wow, Don really is good at making pretty screenshots), it's also fun at looking at the features at works and the interesting files he had shown in the screenshots. :) Much better than reading through the text heavy manual most of the time.

Welcome JamesRdixon!

I think it depends on what you expect from XY, and what you expect from yourself.

Sure: you can read as much as you like - you will get many ideas what to do. But don't forget just to work with XY. I think basic functions are quite easy - and when you want to do things and don't know how: read help!
There's help built in to XY, and there's a .pdf help file that can be downloaded from License Lounge. Both are the same - but you work with it in a bit different way.

If you have problems: ask the forum. People are glad to help!
If asking: try to explain your problems, so that people can understand - that helps a lot. (And sometimes you might solve a problem yourself doing it this way :ugeek: )

Especially important: have fun :D
With XY, with the forum, and with your exploring!

Regards
Peter

FYI: The OP here was reported/flagged as spam by one of regulars, which it somewhat looked like - but as one of the moderators, I choose to leave it as is simply because of the use of a nick/userid that seems like a real person which is unusual for spam bots, at least in my experience.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.
