XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Got the same problem here... (v8.80)
Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
I'm having the same exact problem as described by Plastic. XYPlorer 8.80.0038 (Beta)Plastic wrote:I am having a similar problem :
When I delete files/folders in XYplorer, it hangs (menu bar goes blank, can't do anything, etc.), sometimes up to 1 minute.
I can go delete this file or any other in MS Explorer while XY is hung without any problem........................
XP SP3 - Avira AV
--edit------
BTW this doesn't happens with the stable release 8.80.0000
Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Is there some kind of workaround?
I can't move or delete files anymore - XYplorer is totally unusable in this mode.

Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Is has been established that this problem only arises when the recycle bin contains deeply nested folders. So a logical workaround would be to remove those folders from the reycle bin.liqweed wrote:Is there some kind of workaround?

Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Just to clarify - my recycle bin was indeed full and bloated when the problem first started a few months ago now, but clearing it (and running CCleaner, defragmenting, restarting etc.) didn't solve the problem.
I really like XYplorer. But I can't use it for some time now. File explorer that can't move files around or delete files is useless. As much as I hate going back to Windows Explorer and forfeiting my license I find myself doing just that.

Can you post your configuration details: Windows version, exact XYplorer version, security software, CPU, RAM? Also, can you expand on the moving files problem?liqweed wrote:Just to clarify - my recycle bin was indeed full and bloated when the problem first started a few months ago now, but clearing it (and running CCleaner, defragmenting, restarting etc.) didn't solve the problem.

Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Some time ago I was deleting 1000+ files (many sub-directories) and XY became so slow as to be unusable. I switched to x² and continued with that, which was fine. Out of curiosity I tried T.C. and no problem with that either, so there is something that XY is doing different.
Possibly related:
Select a reasonable number of files in the recycle bin. Context menu key (or right mouse click) and wait..... and wait..... then the menu appears. I've just tried with 120 files, many sub-directories, and it took 40 seconds to display the context menu. In x²'s recycle bin, under the same conditions, the menu is instantaneous. Nothing to do with caching because XY takes the same amount of time if the action is repeated.

Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Confirmed (but I don't think it's related). I measured around 40 msec per item on my system which is real slow. I looked at it but could not find a way to make it faster.Gandolf wrote:Possibly related:

Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Checked with 1000+ files. x², T.C. & DOpus all display the context menu almost instantly.
Moving off topic, deleting the 1000+ files from the recycle bin using XY the display is never refreshed, although the files are deleted from the bin. Checking with Process Explorer and XY is inactive, but not locked out because a refresh of XY shows the files have been deleted from the bin.
My longer time is possibly due to the fact that some of the files were 8 or 9 directories deep and on several removable drives, each with it's own recycle bin.admin wrote:I measured around 40 msec per item on my system

Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Just checked with Explorer: When you click on "Properties" in the context menu it looks like only the context menu of the focused item is shown, not of all selected items. Can you confirm this? This would explain the speed of course...Gandolf wrote:Checked with 1000+ files. x², T.C. & DOpus all display the context menu almost instantly.

I'll check that refresh issue...

But XY only displays the properties of the focused item.admin wrote:...When you click on "Properties" in the context menu it looks like only the context menu of the focused item is shown, not of all selected items...

Re: XYPlorer hang on file deletion
Ok, true, but this has other reasons. Explorer normally does display properties for all selected items, right?Gandolf wrote:But XY only displays the properties of the focused item.admin wrote:...When you click on "Properties" in the context menu it looks like only the context menu of the focused item is shown, not of all selected items...
