0) you have 4 items
1) press ctrl+space on 1st item
2) press down arrow 3 times
3) press ctrl+shift+space
Expected behavior: 4th item stays selected
Actual behavior: it selects 2nd and 3rd items and deselects 4th
ctrl+shift+space miscommunication with pivot
Re: ctrl+shift+space miscommunication with pivot
Here is another bug:
0) you have 5 items, 3rd of which is selected
1) select the 1st one (ctrl+space)
2) go to the 5th one and press ctrl+shift+space
Expected: all the items 1 to 5 are selected
Actual: 3rd one gets reversed to unselected. PS: same for both 23.20.0108 and 23.20.0109
-------
PPS: same for unselecting
0) All selected but 3rd
1) unselect 1st
2) go to 5th press ctrl+shift+space
Expected: All unselected
Actual: 3rd gets selected ---------------------
Though this might be actually how it should work. Maybe this is a bug in Explorer rather then in XY because this is the way lasso selection works in both of them: it reverses the selections. ----------------
Here are argument for mimicking Explorer way:
1) Explorer users will not be confused with different behavior
2) It's beneficial to have a way to select/unselect a sequence of items independently of their selection status

Emulating a black box is work. Coming closer...

Re: ctrl+shift+space miscommunication with pivot
There is one small mouse-related thing.
When you deselect a group of items with ctrl+LMB for the starting point and ctrl+shift+LMB for the end point, it refuses to deselect the last item. Interestingly enough, this bug does not happen when you go from bottom to top. ----------
PS. This goes far back in history. I checked a couple of old versions (14.50, 10.70) and it takes place in both. I should've probably created a separate bug issue...
---------
Also the bug does not happen (even if you go down) when you deselect not all of the items leaving some selected.

Re: ctrl+shift+space miscommunication with pivot
Thanks. I closed the black box for now. I'll open it again next winter.
