filtering extra tag of type "ratings stars" doesn't seem to work

Post by JLoftus »

Hi Don, I have an extra tag of type "Ratings Stars" whose values are presumed to be 1-5.

Attempting to filter in my details list view using syntax ex2:5 does not work (for that matter, using ex2:n, where n is any number 1-5, doesn't seem to yield correct results). Another user in the TT & QA forum confirmed unable to return the expected results.

Can you please help to see if I'm simply doing something wrong?

Thanks

@Don: I can confirm this issue, in addition it seems to only affect ex1 and ex2, and also applies to the LFB, it isn't strictly rating stars related either, number/text data will be the same.

Hi Don, with 21.60.0126 I am seeing some improvement, visual filter seems to be working fine, but still have some quirk in LFB:

When I entered ex2:5 in the LFB, I did not get the correct results. However, based on some testing with Jupe, I added /n, still did not get the right result, but, then when I backspaced over the characters, returning to ex2:5, the results were correctly filtered. Then, I changed ex2:5 to ex2:4 and again the results were wrong, and again if I added some characters in the LFB then backspaced them out, then the results were correct. So it seems like something is still not working perfectly.

it was part of a testing effort, turns out unneeded. Regardless, it seems some sort of refresh issue with the LFB. I can add any characters, even simply adding a single space and then backspacing fixes the error.

Steps to reproduce:

Enter ex2:5 in the LFB (results correct)
backspace over the 5 and replace it with another number, e.g. 4 (results INCORRECT, even after pressing enter)
add a space character and backspace again, now the results are again correct

:? Cannot reproduce. Are you typing into the LFB?

yes, see attached. the first image shows the incorrect results, then I simply added a space and then backspaced, the second image shows then the correct results.

Also note some drawing artifacts in the LFB, see the little white block at the beginning of the field, and I've seen it where there are more than one of those little white blocks in the field, at the beginning and at the end, so it's not related to the caret. Font related?

:veryconfused: Never seen this little white block. Can you reproduce this with a fresh instance?

Yes, here's a fresh instance, with NO tag.dat present and no settings file present. All I did was add an Extra Tag column 2 of type Ratings Stars, then I set ratings for a bunch of files, and the behavior is worse, not working at all:

OK, can NOT reproduce with the newest beta, seems to be working perfectly in the LFB.

So that said, any guesses as to what settings I can look for to track down why I am not getting the proper refresh when I edit the value in the LFB?

I have more information too. This is a network location. I just tried the LFB with a local drive and it appears to be working correctly.

Here are my refresh

Try to remove any delay:
Configuration | Find and Filter | Filters & Type Ahead Find | Live Filter Box | Delay before filter is applied (in milliseconds)

Interesting! This looks like the cause of the problem, but, looks now like some other related bug:

My setting was 0 ms. (I never set a value). I changed it to 10ms, and the problem went away. I returned it to zero and the problem returned! I will leave it at 10ms but looks like zero was the problem (for me).

EDIT: Also tried 1ms and that fixes it, again returning it to zero, the issue returns. I will leave it at 1ms

Thanks
