Removing MDBU by clicking on blow-up not functioning for GIF

Post by klownboy »

MDBU of gif files seems to be broken with a Configuration setting of right click on thumbnail stay up.
- Bring up a gif with right click of mouse on a icon in list pane or thumbnail itself in thumbnail view.
- Try to click (left or right mouse click) on the running gif (on the blow-up itself)
- The running gif continues to run. Right clicking on the blow-up brings up the context menu; left click does nothing.
- Clicking outside the blow-up will remove the blowup, but not on the blow-up itself.
- if I raise another program from the taskbar, the blow-up remains on top of that program and clicking anywhere does not remove the blow-up.
- I have to minimize that program and normalize XYplorer again and click on the list pane to remove the blow-up.
- This is not the case with jpg files. With the same settings, clicking on the blow-up (right or left) eliminates the blow-up
- I'd supply a gif for you but this behavior is the same with any of them.
- I don't think this was an issue before, but I couldn't tell you how long it's been an issue.
- The issue isn't affected by the setting "Allow dragging items by thumbnail"
- Same issue in fresh instance.

Yes, I had noted that too, and did not find a way to fix it yet. I guess I will have to internally disallow MDBUs with animated GIFs to stay up on right-click.

Well, I suppose you could do that for GIFs (i.e., make the right click perform as the left mouse down), but I'm not sure I'd bother going that far. If you can't find a fix, I can certainly live with it the way it is. It's just a matter of knowing you have to click outside the blow-up for GIFs. It is a bit odd in that even escape doesn't close it.

The machine that renders the animation is the infamous "Browser control". It always means trouble. IMO removing them from Stay Up is the cleaner solution.

Sounds good, at least until you stumble onto some magical solution.

Are you sure that this worked at some time?

I'm quite sure I would have reported it some time ago if it didn't work when you first enabled gif MDBUs. Maybe if I have some time this weekend I'll time some old versions from the freezer.

Hi Don, Inspector Clouseau here. I went back to the freezer and found out that version 20.40.0000 and of course previous versions work as we would expect (i.e., clicking on the MDBU itself eliminates the blow-up). Freezer version 20.50.0300 does not work. I looked through the betas notes between the working version and non-working version and I'd guess the most logical culprit would be beta 20.40.0020 which affected right-click of MDBU staying up. My next choice would be v20.40.0011 which affected single click to open. I know we have an unofficial Beta archive and I have access and I've used it before, but I couldn't get there (yet).

Okay Don I was able to access and download unofficial betas from Marco's Google Drive.

Beta version 20.40.0029 works (i.e., clicking on the MDBU itself eliminates the blow-up).
The very next version - full release 20.50.0000 - does not work.

Seems a bit strange since I thought that official (20.50.0000) simply incorporates all the betas since 20.40.0000.

Bingo, Clouseau! :appl:

Could find the crucial changes using WinMerge and fix it!

Well, sometimes I do some last minute polishing. This time I commented in the code:
' does not seem necessary anymore
... and removed some lines. LOL. I was wrong.
