[Fixed] Keeping a selected file in view when changing views
Is there an option either in Configuration or as a tweak that will keep a selected file in view when changing views, for example," List" to "Details" or visa versa? I looked through Configuration and the XYplorer.ini file, but I didn't notice anything, but I could have missed it. Thanks

Re: Keeping a selected file in view when changing views
I had a similar question recently. Is this the answer for you?
My fix from 'highend' was: Define this Folder View as Default

Arrange them as necessary and use Menu - View - Folder View Settings - Define this Folder View as Default?

Re: Keeping a selected file in view when changing views
Thanks davidhelp, but this issue is not really about folders views themselves (FVSs). It's about keeping a highlighted file in view in the list panel when changing a view. For example, when I change an age filter, the file does stay in view (as long as the file is within that age filter). Whereas, changing the view type, the file does not stay in view. For example, if I'm currently in "list" view and have a file highlighted in the middle of a long listing of files - like file that begins with "k", when I change to "details" view, the listing goes to the start of the file list - files beginning with "a" instead of keeping that highlighted file beginning with "k" in view. It may be just a setting I have that needs to be changed. I do have a saved FVS for one of the folders that I see this issue (I see it on all folders), and I changed some of the "applied settings" like saving sort etc. in the FSV, but it made no difference on this issue. Thanks.

Re: Keeping a selected file in view when changing views
For me, enabling Tools > Configuration > Sort and Rename > Keep current item in view after resorting, does the trick?
Re: Keeping a selected file in view when changing views
You would think that might help but for me it doesn't. I had it checked already. So as I mentioned in my example above, when I go into detail view from a list view, the file I had selected in list view is not on screen. Funny though, it seems to be alright the other way around. Whatever I have selected in detail view is in view when I switch to list view (i.e., it doesn't go to the top of the folder as it does in detail view). Thanks.

Going from List to Details (I tried the other way) indeed doesn't work for me.klownboy wrote: ↑15 Nov 2020 23:49 You would think that might help but for me it doesn't. I had it checked already. Thanks nas8e9. Always good to know it's not a "just me" issue.

Re: Keeping a selected file in view when changing views
Hi Don, I asked the question here, but it looks like this could be a bug and should be over in the other section. If I have a file selected in a long list of files in List view mode, and I then change to a Details view, the file is no longer in view. The view jumps to the start of the folder. The other direction is fine - the file selected in a details view will still be in view when changing to a the list view mode. I use List view quite a bit in large folders. So when jumping to Details view to get more information on a file, it can be annoying not having the file in view. The file is still selected but not in view. I never see the file stay in view on the first time of time changing the view from list to details but "sometimes" on subsequent changes it does stay in view. Is that a bug or could there be a setting in play which would cause XY to jump to the start of a folder but only in details view? Thanks.

Bumpity Bump. Hi Don could you take a look at this one. It probably should have been under bugs.

Maybe this will help you to bring selected item into view
Miscellaneous | Focus Functions | Move Focused Item Into View
(Shift+Alt+F6)

Re: Keeping a selected file in view when changing views
Refresh button in windows explorer bring selected file into view again
Can refresh button in XY do the same thing?

Re: Keeping a selected file in view when changing views
Thanks that is true, but I don't believe we should have to do anything to keep the file in view when changing views. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't want that.
