bug report: v. 21.20.0100 crashing frequently

XYplorer version 21.20.0100 is crashing frequently, at least once per day.

I created a fresh instance of the portable edition with only one script in use, Session Manager, and it still crashes on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit v.1909. It often simply crashes when nothing is happening (i.e. XYplorer is sitting in the background not being used).

No other apps are crashing, just XYplorer.

How best to proceed in diagnosis?

Does XYplorer show crash information on-screen? If so, can you post a screenshot?

Does Windows' "View reliability history" (can be searched for in Start Menu) show details of the crashes?

XYplorer does not show any crash information on-screen; it simply disappears.

There are entries in Reliability History. Interestingly, there are two nearly-identical entries for each time XYplorer crashes.

There are only two known reasons for XY to crash and this is true for many years (unless I created a brand new bug):

1) Faulty 3rd party shell extensions in the context menu

2) PDF preview using the Adobe preview handler

Did your head nod with one or more of these points?

Thank you. I agree, XYplorer has been very stable for me as well until the last few weeks.

1. 3rd-party shell extensions in the context menu
Head-nodding commences... slightly. Not sure if any are "faulty," as I'm not generally seeing issues aside from XYplorer crashing. Shell extensions do exist on the system, but were not in use at the time of crashes.

2. PDF preview using Adobe preview handler
So far, I've not had a crash using the Adobe preview handler.

What seems strange to me:
Entry 2 and Entry 3 occurred when nothing was happening in XYplorer (it was idle in the background).
Entry 1 above occurred when I was simply copying files in XYplorer.

Neither of those involves PDF previews or using the context menu.

...It was a cold, rainy night in Köln. The plot thickens...

Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Usability | Context Menus | Hide shell extensions from shell context menu

And then try to give me some pattern...

I am also experiencing this issue. Crashing, literally every 5 or 10 minutes and I'm almost about ready to give up on this application!
Reading this post, I think it is only when I select a PDF with the preview pane turned on?

I have the same problem here. It crashes frequently due to the preview of office files

I changed the pdf preview handler and it works perfectly for pdf. It is the preview of excel and word files that causes XYplorer to freeze, then I need to press cntrl-alt-supr and kill XYplorer

That's rather rare. There are many factors: Windows version, Office version. But whatever, they have one thing in common: I cannot do anything about it.
