OK still fails with the same error. dlog; produces the following:

XYplorer 21.10.0031 - Windows 10 Professional, 64-bit, Release 2004, Build 19041.508 - 2020-10-02 16:50:21.195
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- 2020-10-02 16:50:10.035 --- Preview64: quit
You mean that "Unrecognized GUID format" error?

OK this build seems to have resolved it by and large. I can now preview PDF's and close without any problems, most of the time. A couple of times when I have closed the preview the whole app closes too without warning. There is nothing in dlog nor <xydata>|xyerrorlog-*.txt. So largely fixed but now causes a whole app crash on occasions.

Still talking about Floating Preview (F11), close by X-button?

Funny you should say that, I've had the entire XY app crash on me several times in the last few days, every time it was because I tried to click somewhere in the XY window while there was a task running (that was launched by XY). Example, I will frequently select some files (maybe 20-30) and using dbPoweramp's context menu, I will convert them from FLAC to WAV or vice-versa. While the conversion is taking place, I might forget about XY's single-threaded design and click in the window. Usually this would result in nothing at all happening, or, I might get the "Switch/wait" dialog, but a few times lately the entire XY just crash closes.

Funny that you don't seem to care to read or reply to my posts...
Still stumbled why you go for 64-bit preview when using PDF-Xchange.

Hm. That did not happen before v21.10.0032?

PS: Please try v21.10.0033. I changed something.

Yes so the steps I'm following are:

1. Open XY and go to a folder and filter for PDF's
2. Press F11 to preview
3. Press up / down arrow to move file
4. Press ALT+F4 to close the preview

Sometimes only the preview will close, and on other occassions the preview will close and the whole app. As I've experimented with it I think that if you press ALT+F4 when the preview is still generating in the preview pane that this will cause both windows to close, but I'm not sure.

Still fails in the way described above I'm afraid.

ALT+F4 closes the app. That's not a crash but a command. :)

Not sure what you mean Don, I read your answer above and immediately disabled the 64-bit preview, but the crash still persists.

And my "funny you should say that" comment was not talking about preview, it was regarding the xyplorer.exe process crashing recently, which I too have been experiencing. That just started happening with the last couple builds.

There must be some misunderstanding. How can the 64-bit preview crash when it's disabled? PDF-XChange previews work without problems in 32-bit. That's true for many years and many users. I don't remember any user having problems with the PDF-XChange preview.

Anyway, to clear up any misunderstanding please describe as exactly as possible what you do to crash it.

I have to come back to this because there is the bizarre possibility that the crashes I try to fix for days now are just normal program exits via keyboard shortcut.
1) ALT+F4 does not close the Floating Preview but the whole app if "Allow Custom Keyboard Shortcuts in Preview" is enabled in Floating Preview!
2) Why use 2 fingers for this anyway? The normal way to close the Floating Preview is to press F11 again, or to press ESC.
3) I will stop ALT+F4 from closing the app while the Floating Preview is open just to avoid what apparently happened in 1). :)

OK, that might well be the case. I have been closing the current window for a long time with ALT+F4 so am just used to it. As I understand it ALT+F4 by default closes the current window rather than the whole App, although I understand that some apps do use ALT+F4 that way. Either the change to prevent ALT+F4 closing the app is good because the behaviour was inconsistent, hence why I thought it was a bug! Hope that makes some sense.
