List Pane not redrawing properly after filter changes

Post by klownboy »

Hi Don, over the last few days I've been experiencing a very strange behavior with file display in the list pane. When I change the age filter the list pane whether it's in a normal list, details or even a thumbnail view, the files will not update in the pane (e.g., increase from a day filter to a month filter) and the number of files will stay the same even hitting F5 to refresh doesn't do anything but as soon as I move my mouse cursor across the pane the files will magically start appearing where they should be one after another. In a thumbnail view, the thumbnails turned to large icons (of the default viewer) when the mouse was rolled over them and the additional thumbs only reveal themselves (because of age filter range increase) as I roll the mouse across the screen. MDBU still works on them even after that changing to a large icon.

With the help of highend and his XYplorer freezer, I was able to narrow the problem down to beta v21.10.0018. The issue does not occur on v21.10.0017 or any versions earlier than that.

Great, that's a relief. I thought it might be one of those elusive ones affecting me only since no one else reported it.

Hi again Don, as a follow-up to the above issue (which is fixed) another issue was happening which I think was there at the same time but this one is still there. After immediately entering a large photo folder, which has a saved folder view of thumbnails in large thumbnail size, I'm seeing the icon view of the thumbnail first - it's the same size of the thumbnail but a large picture of the associated image program's generic icon (in my case ImageEye). It's a bit annoying. It's not on screen a long time, but the fact that XYplorer is taking the time to needlessly draw those large generic icons before drawing the actual thumbnails seems to be an issue. It never did that before at least I never saw it happening. It is definitely less noticeable after many entries into the folder. Thanks. Edit: This is occurring in photo folders that are completely cached with no new pics to cache.

Not here. Your ini file might give a clue. I'll look at it tomorrow...

Thanks Don, I don't see it in folders with 500 photos or less. It's not until you have 1000 or more that you'll see it for sure. I have some that are well over 4000 and it's very noticeable and as I mentioned this is with folders completely cached. Even in my very largest of photos folders I never saw this a week ago.

Tried with 4000 jpegs, no problem.

You might try an older version from the freezer, or a fresh install. Or a Windows reboot. :)

I probably fixed it (the thumbnails/icons flicker). Did not look new to me though. Rather like about 8 years old.

I started going back to test earlier versions. I got back to v21.10.0016 but I'm still seeing the flash of icons first (very quick mind you). I also changed my Windows default viewer from ImageEye to Irfanview just in case the default image viewer came into play, but that didn't make any difference. Instead of seeing ImageEye's icon in a very large thumbnails view I see Irfanview teddy bear icon. Of course that flashing doesn't seem as apparent after making a number of entries into the folder.

Magnifico with beta v21.10.0026. I forgot I had another folder with well over 7000 photos. Before testing on that one, I did a thumbnail rebuild. I didn't notice any flashing of the default program's generic icon entering the folder. It was probably something that most people would never notice unless they had some huge image folders, but whatever you did certainly made a difference. Thanks Don. :cup:
