XYCopy not quitting
XYCopy not quitting
Hi All,
I have noticed that sometimes after copying files to various USB sticks I am left with some instances of XYCopy still running long after the copy is complete.
For instance, here is a screen shot from process explorer: But XY says that all background jobs are complete: Does anyone know why XYCopy is still running? Is this intended? Is there a setting that tells XYCopy to quit after it has finished a copy job?
Cheers
John

Re: XYCopy not quitting
Hi All,
I just wanted to bump this because for me this is still happening (in the latest 20.90.0909 beta).
I'm seeing the same behaviour in a ::fresh instance of XY as well.
Is this happening for anyone else? I don't really know which settings to change to fix it.
Update: it seems like any file operation which involves a USB drive and XYCopy leaves XYCopy running after it completes.
Cheers

Can't reproduce this...Update: it seems like any file operation which involves a USB drive and XYCopy leaves XYCopy running after it completes.
What is the policy for such a drive (device manager, disk drives, right click on <drive> - Properties, tab Policies)?

Re: XYCopy not quitting
The policy is set to "Quick Removal (default)".
I've also tried different usb drives and both usb 3.0 and usb 2.0 ports. Same.

And what happens if you try to eject that usb drive via the icon in the tray while xycopy is still lingering in the task manager?

Re: XYCopy not quitting
Windows let's me eject it using the safe remove function no problem (no warnings).

Ok, then Don needs to provide the answer as why xycopy doesn't exit correctly...

Re: XYCopy not quitting
I have to mention that I have also run into cases when XYCopy has stayed active even after quitting XYplorer, as well as multiple instances being created, it usually occurred when copying to USB, but from memory also happened to me when copying to a NAS. (might be misremembering on that point though) I never bothered trying to get reproducible steps though, so never mentioned it, but can confirm the behavior.

Re: XYCopy not quitting
No, that's not the case. Normally XYcopy does self-destroy after the job is completed, or after you click OK to the final summary dialog. But if you "Quick Remove" then this is the expected behavior when the operation is not yet completed.

Re: XYCopy not quitting
I never see XYcopy hanging in my task manager, but maybe I did not look at the right moment. If I can reproduce it I can fix it, but I cannot imagine the steps ATM. If someone has them for me...

Re: XYCopy not quitting
The policy is set to quick removal. I don't think that he removes the drive while the copy is still in progress and you can't eject it via the tray icon during the process (you'll get a warning dialog window)

Re: XYCopy not quitting
Good afternoon all,
Windows 10, 2004, x64, all latest patches/updates. XY 20.90.0910.
I too have been getting this lately - last 2-3 betas or so. It may have been happening before, not sure, only started noticing it when updating XY - would stop with an error telling me to make sure XY isn't running.
After going into Task Manager, sure enough, extra copies of XYcopy are still there. Here is XY running, no ongoing copies, all copies have completed : I haven't been copying to any removable drives, just internal HDDs and shared NAS volumes (mapped as a drive).
If I close XY (main program), I get this : These all have to be ended manually in Task Manager. For me, I can recreate this every time by simply doing an file operation - copy, cut, paste, move to other pane, etc. Also, these are all on local HDDs or a NAS share, XYcopy stays open on both, even after closing XY.
UPDATE
I rolled back to the latest official release and there are no lingering XYcopy tasks. I'm going to do a full reboot and start some copies between drives and NAS and see if the issue comes back.
