20.90.01 Crashing

Post by dothedew »

The last few updates including this one seems to have some bug that makes the program very unstable. Use it for a little while, then it crashes. Seems random and not upon specific actions. Hoping the next update fixes it.

Well, it would help to get a little more context on this, especially since you are the only one so far reporting this.

Anyway, try to tick this for starters:
Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Usability | Context Menus | Hide shell extensions from shell context menu

Same thing is happening to me. I jumped back to 20.70 and the problem no longer is an issue. It would basically crash if i jumped between tabs/panes and try to open up a file. Also, when trying to open an excel file, the file appeared to open in XY and not in excel.

Maybe I am seeing the same but very often when I have preview of the JPG images enabled and I am deleting files xyplorer dies itself without any error message. It closes itself (what I can say it also delete all files, but I have to open xyplorer again). Hard to say what is the reason, but two computers, different, mostly default settings and both are doing the same. I have 20.90.0300 version, but it is like this much longer time.

So you see the image in the Preview tab, then you delete it in the file list pressing DEL (recycle bin)? Or Shift+DEL (permanent delete)? And are you saying this only happens with JPG, not with other image formats?

Usualy this scenario. Folder with 15k+ image files (jpg) sorted with the biggest on top. Preview pane enabled. U am selecting from the smallest from bottom to up by shift and pageup. Then deleting all selected by shift and del. Then I see the deleting window and then xyplorer close itself (not sure if during or when is deletion completed).

"... from bottom to up by shift and pageup." So before you delete, ALL files are selected?

Not all in the folder but those from bottom I marked until desired size and want to delete. So from cursor to down all.

So that can be several thousand? (Just asking to mimic the case as exactly as possible...)

Yes, for example 2000.I will check if that is case. Mostly I have feeling it happena when I do very quick steps (marking.. deleting...) , maybe I never release shift and just hit del. I will do best investigation.

The way you do your selection using shift and pageup with the Preview tab open, this means that there are a lot of files previewed while you are selecting, right? So there might be the situation that files are still "queued" to be previewed and deleted at the same time. That might cause the crash. Just a theory.

One more question: Do you get an "Are you sure?" prompt before deletion, or does it start right after pressing DEL (on keydown of DEL actually)?

Whatever, I was able to reproduce an crash! :D   And fix it, of course. So, please try if you still can make it crash using the next beta (v20.90.0402).

Hello Don,

so far so good  . I tested it and no any crashes. Will test it more. I get message about "Are you sure" I guess... at least v20.90.0402 is asking me.
