Batch Rename wrong detecting base.

Post by eil »

while batch renaming several items with no extensions(even no dots at the end) and trying to add them new extension, noticed that if there are dots present inside base name, the extension is put inside name and not in the end. first thought i'm wrong with pattern, but tried all imaginable *? combinations to simply add new extension at the end and no luck.

When trying to use a feature, referencing the available help information, even just the abridged information which is conveniently available in the dialog you are using, can be beneficial...

@jupe hm.. i would never imagine a pattern like this, because while it works it looks illogical...
*.?.mp3 /e = original base(ok) + original extension(probably ok) + new extension(ok) + drop original extension(what?! i "kept original", then added new, and now dropping.. some extension) :eh:
still thanks for hint.

It's not that illogical if you see that from POV of the app there is nothing like "a file with no extension but with dots in the name". Everything right of the last dot is the extension. So what you are trying to do here is to append one extension to another extension. Which is an exotic thing to do, so it should need an exotic pattern to solve it. All fine.

BTW, there is a much easier way via the Set Extension interface:
